We have entered the era of 40K MSU murder ball units right now. These are three Space Marine Supplement units that can slice and dice their way through just about anything. Watch Out!
These are small units designed to punch above their actual point cost usually utilizing a mixture of abilities, rules, and just pure Marine nonsense. These units are going to show up if you run into one of these Marine armies no matter what color their supplement is supposed to be. Let’s look at the top 3 Supplement options we see all the time right now.
Black Templars Murder Ball
Black Templar Sword Brethren X 5 – 105pts
Castellan – 60pts
Marshal – 80pts
Total – 245pts
Abilities – The Black Templars Castellan gives rerolls to hit if a leadership is passed. The Marshal (which has the Captain keyword to allow double characters to join up) gives the unit Critical hits on 5+. You mix this with the Reroll and a ton of attacks this unit can easily punch up especially with a pile of Master-Crafted Power weapons that gain Lethal hits.
Attacks – Sword Brethren with Master-Crafted Power weapons come in with 15 attacks total that will be damage 2, rerolling to hit, and then lethal hits on a 5+. That is a whole lotta damage for right under 250 points. Plus all of this can come out of an Impulsor with its transport capacity of 7.
Space Wolves Murder Ball
Space Wolf – Wolf Guard Headtaker X 3 – 85pts
Wolf Guard Battle Leader – 65pts
Total – 150pts
Abilities – The Space Wolves Headtakers get to pick a quarry to which grants them Devastating Wounds and Precision with attacks to target. You add in the Wolf Guard Battle Leader and they gain Sustained Hits 1 on top of that as well. This will easily spike some damage thru and having Devastating wounds is a heck of a drug.
Attacks – The 3 Headtakers are coming in with 12 attacks each and then the Wolf Guard Battle Leader will come in with 7 Power Weapon attacks or 5 Thunder Hammer if needed. You mix some fun from Saga of the Beastslayer and get Lethal Hits for this unit to really amplify its damage. All of this for 150pts that can easily fit into an Impulsor.
Dark Angels Murder Ball
Dark Angels Inner Circle Companions X 3 – 90pts
Judiciar – 70pts
Total – 160pts
Abilities – The Dark Angels Judiciar will grant the unit Fights First and the Inner Circle Companions will get -1 to be hit due to having the Judiciar attached. They also have a ton of attacks to throw out with options to get Lethal hits or Sustained Hits 2 if they are fighting a crowd of 1 wound jabronies.
Attacks – The Judiciar comes in with 5 devastating wounds with precision and the Inner Circle Companions have 12 attacks coming in hot and ready to wreck the enemy. It is a decent amount of attacks that can easily spike up and hit above their 160 point cost.
Tiny But Mighty
All of these tiny little units of pain are great things to help fill out your army and let your supplement power up and wreck things. The Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard gets so powered up in Liberator Assault Group but we know that unit is good. These are some of the neat little mini units you can buy a box, grab a character, and watch as this little buzzsaw unit comes rushing in.
