There’s a new season of Blood Bowl coming soon and it’s bringing the Brionne Barons of Bretonnia to the pitch.

The Tomb Kings and Bretonnians are at it again for an Old World throwdown. Only this is the Warhammer World of Blood Bowl! That said, it is kind of funny that GW is releasing a boxed set for Bretonnians vs Tomb Kings. Anyhow, we’ve got new Bretonnians and the returning Tomb Kings who are all looking extra crisp in with their plastic miniatures.

“That’s right, sports fans – the Game of Fantasy Football is back with a new season. It brings two new teams (to begin with!), smart rules updates, and roster changes that will shake up team selections across the board. Written by Blood Bowl fanatics for Blood Bowl fanatics, this is the definitive edition of the game – it will shake up the meta and keep even the hoariest veterans on their toes.”

Blood Bowl’s Third Season Edition

So yeah, this is a new edition of the game with a new starter box (essentially). Aside from the two teams in the box (we’ll get to those) it also comes with everything you need to get playing. You get a double-sided board and dugouts. There’s two sets of dice and quick reference sheets. And of course there’s the big hardback rulebook inside, too. The new rulebook also has all the reworked rosters for every team in the game!

Oh and yes, the range and scatter templates are in the box as well. We can’t forget those. This time around, there’s also some handy markers for your player’s status effects for Prone, Stunned, Blitzing, etc. And I can’t believe it’s taken them this long to come up with those. So it sounds like a nice improvement all the way around. That said, I know what you’re all here for: The Miniatures! So let’s check those out.

The Bretonnians are coming with the following players:

2x Grail Knights

2x Knight Throwers

2x Knight Catchers

6x Squires

It’s also worth noting that the Grail Knights are coming with a new skill this season: Steady Footing. This let’s them avoid getting knocked down if they roll a 6. Talk about throwing a wrench in the opponent’s plans!

Okay, I’m going to be honest here. I don’t recognize any of these Tomb King Miniatures. I know the Tomb Kings are an old team and they previously had miniatures…But I’m probably thinking of the old metal team. And the article from WarCom doesn’t specify that these are actually new miniatures (but I think they might be). So I’m just going to say they are new to me and roll with it.

Anyhow, the Tomb Kings (new or otherwise) are a returning team in the box. They should play about the same as their previous iteration. That means that they may have a lower agility stat that most teams but they are tough and bashy. They aren’t afraid to get into the muck and duke it out. You’ll get four Tomb Guardians, two Blitzers, two Throwers, and a bunch of skeletal linemen to round things out.

I’ll admit, this box does look pretty good! I’m liking the updated look of these teams and it sounds like a good pairing. I’m also looking forward to the new status markers in the box. I think that might be one of the smartest moves so far. The above ones have been painted to look metallic and I like the look of them! I’m also really liking the Possession marker and the fact that there’s a place to put the ball. Well designed all around!
