Scarlet Rot and the fell sorcerery of the Moon are at the heart of two new standalone expansions for the Elden Ring Board Game.

In Elden Ring: Rot & Sorcery, we finally get to what Elden Ring is all about. Poison swamps that will kill you dead. I mean, honestly, poison swamps are the heart of any FromSoftware game – even Armored Core – as anyone who’s ever played those games knows all too well.

And it doesn’t get more poison or more swamp than the fetid land of Caelid. Even Liurnia is full of swamp nightmares (and sniper crayfish). Soon you’ll be able to explore both in two new standalone expansions for the Elden Ring Board Game, currently on Gamefound.

Elden Ring: Rot & Sorcery

Steamforged Games has clearly figured out what the people want here. With the Elden Ring Board Game, they tackled the challenge of capturing the feel of getting absolutely curbstomped in the video game but adapted for your tabletop. To the tune of about $4.4 million in 2022. Now, with Elden Ring: Rot & Sorcery they are stepping into some of the deadliest regions of the video game with two new core boxes.

Each of these core boxes is a fully self-contained experience. You don’t need any of the previous games to open up and play, though you absolutely can. Part of the appeal is the interconnectedness of all of the sets. Eventually you’ll be able to play the whole of the Lands Between.

But you’ll find miniatures, deep tactical tabletop combat, all the hallmarks of the original board game, but sprcued up for a new challenge:

“[Elden Ring: Rot & Sorcery] introduces two new core boxes – Machinations of the Witch and Dominion of Rot – that plunge players into the eerie fog of Liurnia and the corruption of Caelid.

In the Lakes of Liurnia, sorceries lay dormant, secrets dwell deep, and the Machinations of the Witch ensnare even the most cunning. In the Dominion of Rot, players must survive the affliction gripping Caelid, traversing ravaged lands to face grotesque enemies, including the fan-favorite Starscourge.”

From the Gamefound campaign, you can see a lot of what lies in store for you. Including a detailed miniature of Starscourge Radahn, and Ranni the Witch, everyone’s favorite cosmic wife/consort. It looks like the two big boss fights are Radahn and Rennala. But the real actual bosses will be those stupid crayfish and Caelid dogs. If you’re lucky, you’ll make it to Radahnfest ’98, just like in the video game.

Either way, the Gamefound campaign is your chance to pick these up at a better deal than you’re likely to get at retail. Especially since you can throw in free upgrade packs if you backed the first one. As well as campaign-exclusive unlocks. If you like big board game boxes that offer co-op multiplayer and hours and hours of replayability, you won’t want to miss this one.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to fight board game Malenia, she isn’t real and can’t hurt you – yet!
