Beadle & Grimm’s is back with a new Legendary Edition—this time it’s Tyranny of Dragons, updated for its 10th anniversary to D&D 5.5E.
Tiamat simply will not die. In part, this is because she’s an immortal dragon goddess who represents the evil of the chromatic dragons unified in a single, horrifying being. And partly because WotC and WotC-adjacent folks can’t seem to stop publishing the Tyranny of Dragons campaign. Purveyors of premium tabletop campaign sets and accessories, Beadle & Grimm’s are the latest to take a crack at it.
For the 10th Anniversary of the two-part epic campaign, B&G has just revealed its Tyranny of Dragons: Legendary Edition. This premium box will be full of all the usual suspects, which we’ll dig into here in a bit, but it also updates the campaign for the D&D 5.5E ruleset. Let’s take a look.
Beadle & Grimm’s Tyranny of Dragons: Legendary Edition – Tiamat Rises Once Again
This is a beefy box, too. It comes with the full suite of the B&G immersive experience tools. You get a high quality poster map of the Sword Coast (aka the Remembered Realms), almost 30 other maps of varying sizes, including area maps, battle maps, and all sorts of other ways to visualize the scenic locales of the Sword Coast as it’s beset by the Cult of Dragons.
Speaking of, you better believe there are going to be plenty of miniatures—including a few with “alt deco paint”, as well as art pieces, custom in-world hand outs to give to your players, a pin from the Cult of Dragon, and a bunch of encounter cards to make the big fights from the campaign feel a lot easier.
Actually it sounds like they have a lot going on the DM aid side of things. The thing that leaps out to me is a custom “DM’s Guide to Tyranny of Dragons” written by Mike Shea aka Sly Flourish. This book provides chapter-by-chapter tips and insights, making it easy for you to keep track of goals, secrets, clues, and anything else you need to keep the game moving smoothly. Helpful, especially since the campaign has been updated to 5.5E.
“Tyranny of Dragonsis an epic, two-part adventure that plunges your players into one of the greatest threats Faerun has ever faced – the return of Tiamat. From contentious councils in Waterdeep to the frozen waters of the Sea of Moving Ice, your players will root out the Cult of the Dragon as they amass treasure and power for a world-shattering ritual.
This campaign is a sweeping journey across the Sword Coast, filled with political intrigue, perilous alliances, and legendary battles. You’ll want this massive box full of maps, painted WizKids minis, handouts, DM screen, encounter cards, and tons of other immersive elements to thrill your players. Updated to 2024 rules!”

So there you have it. Tyranny of Dragons is back for 5.5E but in an evolved, deluxe form. With all the custom DMs creens and pertinent info put at your fingertips, you should have an easier time running it. ToD is no Curse of Strahd, though, so your mileage may vary. But, if you want a chunky box and a crunchy campaign, this could be a great jumping off point.
That DM’s Guide seems like the big level up here. Plus all of the minis and maps and jewelry and hand outs. But for DMs? If your group wants to get in on the action, this seems like the most DM friendly box yet.
Look for the 10th Anniversary Tyranny of Dragons: Legendary Edition in November 2025!
