It’s only fair to give Duelists the same treatment. So here’s a few characters in Marvel: Crisis Protocol that Marvel Rivals needs to snag!
Season 4.0 Launched last Friday and with it we got the new flying Vanguard character Angela. Thankfully, she’s already in Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Plus, we know Daredevil is coming. I’m still a little confused about the lore of the whole Matt Murdock/Dizang character we’re getting. I haven’t unlocked all the lore about him yet but it seems like Dizang might also be more of a title than a person. At least in this case. But I’m going to chalk it up to multiverse and timey-whimey shenanigans.
ANYHOW, I have been enjoying the new season so far. And because I already covered Vanguards and Strategists, I figured it was only fair to give the Duelists their shot. Now, I know we’re not exactly short on Duelist characters. In fact, I would much rather see more Strategists and Vanguards added much sooner than another Duelist. But that’s another issue.
Note: As I mentioned in previous articles, I know there’s a leaked list of characters. I’m intentionally skipping any on that list which is why you won’t see some very obvious additions here. With that said, let’s just get into a few of my picks.
Carnage
After his May Update in MCP, I’ve been really enjoying busting him out. He’s still go a few problems (like defense) but I think that’s part of his charm. I think one of the hardest parts of choosing a new Duelist to add to Marvel Rivals is finding characters that don’t just do what other characters do, but better. How do you design a Carnage that’s not just Spider-Man or Venom? I think that’s a good question and a design problem for adding Carnage. That said, I’m all for adding more melee duelists to the game and if he’s got some serial-killer tendril attacks Carnage could be really cool.
Pyro
Okay, I know I just said how do you go about “finding characters that don’t just do what other characters do, but better.” Don’t we already have a Human Torch in the game? Wouldn’t Pyro just dominate him like in both the Comics and in the Deadpool/Wolverine movie? And yeah, I get that. But I think Pyro could fill a different role — or at least a different playstyle. While he could just be created as a ground based flame tosser, I think that’s a little boring. Let’s lean into his mutant power. Give him real fire manipulation like flame constructs that move short distances and hit things. Or what about a short-range flamethrowing arc attack? He’d be squishy…but he’d be deadly!
Black Bolt
King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt could be a good addition to the Marvel Rivals roster. His powers really revolve around his voice which can level cities…so how would that work in Rivals? I mean, clearly we’d have to have him have a sonic blast attack. That seems obvious. But what else would make him stand out from the crowd? And what would his reload animation be? Popping a cough drop?
Fortunately, it’s not my job to figure that out. I mean, hey Netease, hit me up and all, but… I’ll be honest, I just want Black Bolt in the game so I can swap to Hulk and do this:
I mean, we already have World Breaker Hulk’s costume in the game, too…
Electro
Okay, Legitimately, I want Electro in Marvel Rivals. He’s a classic Spider-Man villain, he’s got a cool powerset, and he could play different from both Thor and Storm. I think the main thing that could make him different that Storm is that he’s not a flyer. But he could still have some cool movement tricks. I really like the Ride the Wires rule from MCP and would use that as inspiration for his movement in Rivals. I also think some sort of lightning ball that stuns or slows could be cool — kind of like Rocket Raccon’s healing but a roving CC instead. And yes, you’d have to play with the cooldown on that one. Regardless, Electro could be a fun Duelist in the game.
Angel/Archangel
I know we don’t need another flyer in the game, but man oh man, after seeing Angela fly around, why don’t we have Archangel in the game!? I was honestly thinking is Angel form should probably be a Strategist, but what if he could transform in to Archangel to do damage instead? Then again we already have Cloak and Dagger doing that. And Ultron is a Duelist mascaraing as a Strategist already. But why not flip the script and do the opposite? Angel could be a Strategist that’s labeled a Duelist. And then when he goes into Archangel mode, he drops all pretenses of healing and goes all offense. Those Razor Wings are pretty iconic and he can sling those metal feathers into enemies. I think it could absolutely work in Rivals. Heck, it already does with other characters.

Bonus: The Sinister Six
I was really tempted to just say “The Sinister Six and move on.” But I figured since I mentioned Electro, I didn’t want to ignore the rest of these classic villains. And yeah, let’s get a mega update and just add all of them at once!
What characters do you think would be good Marvel Rivals Duelists from Marvel: Crisis Protocol?
