The Horus Heresy is getting the Fellblade in plastic. What other kits could make the jump from resin to plastic next?
I have a theory that Games Workshop is gearing up to replace more units in the Horus Heresy era with plastic kits. What is this based on? Well, for starters, the new Fellblade is rolling out this weekend for pre-orders. That’s kind of a big deal! But something about this release got me thinking about the swap from resin to plastic. And it has to do with tiny miniatures and EPIC battles.
Note: I’m calling the scale of “The Horus Heresy: Age of Darkness” just Horus Heresy scale to differentiate it from Adeptus Titanicus/Legions Imperalis (aka EPIC) scale.
Legions Imperialis Plastic Kits
Now I don’t know what the pipeline is for Games Workshop and their kit creation process. But I have a feeling that once they get the digital files made for a miniature they have figured out a way to up or downscale that same miniature for whatever scale they want at this point. We’ve seen it in the way the details of the Adeptus Titanicus and Legions Imperialis Miniatures look. The Knight kits are a great example.
And now that we’re getting a plastic Fellblade in the Horus Heresy, how long do you think it’s going to be before we get that same unit in Legions Imperialis? For that matter, what units are already in Legions Imperialis in plastic that aren’t in The Horus Heresy? Well, I’ve got a short list of the ones I’d like to see!
I’m going to leave off some of the obvious ones like Warlord Titans or the Thunderhawk. I mean, do I want those? Absolutely. I just don’t think those will be happening in a reasonable timeframe. Still…I’d love to see them. Just think of all the terrain you could make by wrecking a Warlord Titan! Worth it. Anyhow, let’s get to the kits!
Mastodon Super-heavy Assault Transport
I’d LOVE to see a plastic Mastodon kit! This tank is an absolute beast. But the resin version weighs a ton. A plastic one would cut down on the weight significantly. And that also means the price would drop dramatically. Then again, maybe the fact that they sell for $630 a pop from GW is the reason they won’t turn it into plastic.
Mechanicum Acastus Knights Asterius
Is is just me or are the Acastus Knights the half-way house between Knights and full-on Titans? Honestly, I was debating them or the Porphyrion. But really, you could go either way as they both have smaller plastic versions in Legions Imperialis. And I wouldn’t mind if both of them went plastic in the Horus Heresy scale. In any case plastic versions of these resin kits would again save on weight and significantly drop the price on them. Both wins for the consumer and players…but maybe not in GW’s best fiscal interests. But they DO have the files digitally already…just sayin.
Stalker Constructs
Okay, the real reason I wanted to write this in the first place was because I just wanted to ask “when are we getting the Dark Mechanicus Stalkers and more in the Horus Heresy scale!?” Can we stop beating around the bush and bring them in already? Do GW, I dare you!
What units would you like to see get the plastic treatment in the Horus Heresy scale?
