Dawn of War IV has a new trailer out that has me asking “are we back?” and I think the results speak for themselves.

I’m still getting over the fact that the Original Dawn of War came out 19 years ago. A lot has changed since then. But this latest trailer for Dawn of War IV is showing a return to form.

From the video description:

“Here’s your official look into the next evolution of the iconic real-time strategy franchise with Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV! First revealed during PC Gaming Show: Tokyo Direct, this new trailer has been captured entirely from in-engine gameplay.

Many years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, Kronus burns as Space Marines of the Blood Ravens Chapter and their Adeptus Mechanicus allies clash with brutal Ork hordes. With victory almost certain, a new threat emerges: the Necrons. As this new faction overwhelms the battlefield, the Imperium must rebuild and grow their forces if they hope to stand a chance.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of the series or brand new to the world of Dawn of War, this new trailer, captured entirely in-engine, provides a more detailed look at what to expect with exciting gameplay, action-packed cinematics, and a taste of the war-torn future that awaits. At last, back to war! “

Dawn of War IV Trailer – Back To War

At the very minimum, we’re back to what appears to be base building and massive battles with loads of troopers on the screen. We’re also getting a look the four factions involved in this conflict. Oh and some BIG units, too.

The game is once again set on the planet of Kronus and it appears that things are just as hectic as ever. The Space Marines of the Raven Guard are back at it along with the Adeptus Mechanicus, Orks, and Necrons.

It’s also pretty clear that this game isn’t just updating the old campaign or a rehash of the original. There’s a bunch of new units that have since been added to 40k IRL making an appearance in this one. We’ve got Primaris Marines, the updated Necron Monolith, A Castellan, a slew of updated Ork units, and more. Shoot, I’m pretty sure that most of the Ad Mech units all from newer kits — but you get the point.

Gorkanauts charging to battle!

Is it safe to say we’re back? The gameplay looks cool and it does remind me a lot of the OG launch. But I’m trying to stay cautious about this one. I’m going to enjoy this trailer but I want to see some real game play and not the staged test footage for this one.

Let us know what you think of this one in the comments. I’m curious to see how folks are feeling for this one.

I sure HOPE we’re back…
