Dark Horse Comics will launch Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories – Jace, a new four-issue series tied to the Wizards of the Coast TCG, in February. It will be written by Michael W. Conrad, with art by Caitlin Yarsky, colors by Alex Guimaraes, and letters by Clayton Cowles. Covers will be by Yarsky, Francesco Francavilla, and Aleksi Briclot.
The story revolves around Jace Beleren, the most talented mind mage in the Multiverse., whose duplicitous past threatens to unravel him. Jace’s lost memories reveal manipulation by his mentor, Tezzeret, who’s seeking a dangerous magic artifact that could reshape or destroy the Multiverse as we know it.
Writer Conrad expressed his affinity for the character. “Jace is the kind of character that has haunted me for years, he’s that good looking guy that makes me throw my cards in the bin and extend my hand begrudgingly to the dreaded blue player who just ended my game,” he said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Beyond that the lore surrounding him has captured my imagination and has refused to let go.”
The first issue will be released February 4 at $4.99 MSRP.
This is the second Magic: The Gathering series under Dark Horse’s new license for Wizards of the Coast properties (see “Dark Horse Nabs“). The first Magic: The Gathering series, Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories – Elspeth, launched in September; and the first Dungeons & Dragons series launched this month (see “Dark Horse Announces First ‘D&D’ Comic“).
