Goatboy here with a fast armylist utilizing the new “White Scars” based army – the Spearpoint Task Force – starring Suboden Khan.

It’s about time the White Scars got some love. The basic build of the armylist is the basic Stormlance Detachment rule of being able to advance/fallback and charge.  They add on a nice little Wrath of the First Khan rule that allows Suboden Khan’s unit to make a normal move of 6″ if they are not within engagement range of the enemy after destroying an enemy unit in the fight phase.  This lets you get some extra movement beyond the consolidation phase of your fight interaction which could be useful.

Suboden Khan has two interesting rules I want to try and utilize.  The first one is allowing the unit he is with to shoot and declare a charge if the unit advanced.  This isn’t too bad as it lets the unit always be effective during a game.  They also get +1 to advance and charge rolls if they can already advance and shoot so that could be pretty handy later too.  The final rule that really makes me think about a unit is the squad he joins can move horizontally move thru terrain features when they move, shoot, advance, fallback, or charge.  This can allow for your big fat Outrider unit to burst thru those pesky ruins and surprise the opponent with a charge.

Putting the List Together

Let’s build this out real quick as we will for sure have a large outrider unit with the Khan:

Suboden Khan – 115pts
Outrider Unit X 6, Invader ATV – 220pts

That gets us a rather large unit of jerks to cause some problems through a wall.  The next question is what do we do from there with your army as while this is a cool unit – it isn’t going to murder the army with their Akira Bikes.

I think if we are going to go fully White Scars we need to look a Kor’sarro Khan as a nice add on as he will let that Outrider Unit get OC 3.  Plus you can throw him with some Bladeguard Vets in an Impulsor to create a little bully unit that can run out and punch someone as needed.

Kor’sarron Khan – 70pts
Bladeguard Veterans X 6 – 160pts
Impulsor – 80pts

Let’s throw in another Bike unit with the Chaplain on a Bike.  There are some interesting things he can do by granting their Bolt Rifles on their bikes Devastating wounds when he targets someone within 12″.  We can also give him the Hunter’s Eye enhancement to power up his units weapons by gaining Sustained Hits 1 and Ignores Cover.  You mix this with his Devastating Wounds  target ability and you got a neat little murder unit.

Chaplain on a Bike – 90pts
Enhancement – Hunters Eye (Points not given yet – will say 15?)
Outrider Unit X 6, Invader ATV – 220pts

Next up I think we need some basic Marine stuff to help out.  This usually means a unit of Intercessor’s to sticky an objective and most likely some Vindicators to help things out.

Intercessors X 5 – 80pts
Vindicator – 185pts
Vindicator – 185pts

We have 595 points left over to mess with and we have some fun options we can look at. I know we could do some utility as needed or some other kind of “brick” unit to help control the middle.  I know some Scouts are always useful as well to help push or quickly grab an objective.  We could also go with some Jump Pack Intercessors with a Jump Captain to help give another mini bully unit that can quickly rush up and punch something. We can also give him the Spearpoint Paragon enhancement to get an extra Pip of Strength and AP on his melee weapons.

Let’s go with 2 Jump Assault Intercessors and some Scouts to round things out.

Assault Intercessors w/Jump Packs X 5 – 90pts
Assault Intercessors w/Jump Packs X 5 – 90pts
Captain with Jump Pack – 90pts
Enhancement – Spearpoint Paragon (Points not given yet – will say 15?)
Scouts X 5 – 70pts
Scouts X 5 – 70pts

This leaves us with 185 points left to mess with and has me thinking – why not just go all in on the Vindicators to help cover anything missing.  They are tough tanks and just make sure opponents play fair when sitting out in the open.

Vindicator – 185pts

Now if the enhancement points are wrong we would need to drop one or shift some things – but will see.  Let’s put this all together.

White Scars’ Spearpoint Task Force Tactics

The idea with this army is to have 2 Bike units causing problems, a few of the small MSU style units causing issues, a back up plan with the Impulsor with Kor’sarron, and finally 3 Vindicators to blow anything up.  It could do some work and while the 3 choices of Vindicators isn’t as interesting it still looks like it could do some damage.   Plus you are playing both special White Scars characters and all the Bike character options in one army!

For the Khan and the Emperor!
