Rowan, Rook, and Decard will release a new, revised edition of the Royal Blood RPG with a deck of tarot cards, which are used to play the game. This tarot heist RPG will be available as three SKUs: The core rulebook, the tarot deck, and in limited quantities, the Royal Blood Magnificent Box.
The Royal Blood Core Rulebook is a 172-page hardcover that provides the framework of the game. Rowan, Rook, and Decard co-founder Grant Howitt (Eat the Reich) revised both the rules and narrative, expanding it substantially, from the original 2016 version of the game. Mana Project Studio artist Silvia de Stephanis provided new art for the revised text. The new version is described as a rules-light, low-prep RPG.
Players take the roles of Royals, who are half-human, half-magic personifications of the tarot deck’s court cards. Tarot cards are used to generate the mark, the challenges, and the twists in a heist narrative, and to decide the outcome of characters’ actions. The mechanics combine betting and tarot, and cards can invert when players push their characters too far.
A complete tarot deck with art by De Stefanis will be available as a separate item. Royal Blood Magnificent Box, with the Rulebook, tarot deck, and solid metal coins will be available to “a limited set of retailers (most in the US),” a Rowan, Rook, and Decard spokesperson told ICv2.
The Royal Blood RPG range will be released on March 31, 2026.
