Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios revealed the reason for the weird bone statue in the desert: a new Divinity game is coming soon.

Coming soon in the cosmic sense, at least. Larian Studios had a spicy new trailer at this year’s The Game Awards. And after the phenomenal success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Swen Vincke and company basically have a blank check to do whatever they want. In this case, that’s a return to the world of Divinity with a new game(!) revealed late last night.

I was excited to learn that it’s a brand new game that doesn’t require you to have played either Original Sin or its sequel. However, it’s still connected to the world – and Larian freely admits that you’ll be better off having played either of them. But that’s just true in general. You should play Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2.

Larian’s New Divinity Game – “Bigger Than Baldur’s Gate 3”

And while the game is still a blip on the horizon, at The Game Awards last night, Geoff Keighley stated that it was going to be Larian’s “biggest game ever,” and just to hammer home the point, “even larger than Baldur’s Gate 3.” Now. Like many of you, I would have loved more of Baldur’s Gate 3 while I was playing it. But also, now that I’ve finished playing it, hoo-boy is that a LOT.

But Larian doesn’t do anything halfway. You can watch the trailer for the new Divinity right here. Though, fair warning, when they say for adult audiences only, they really really mean it. This is absolutely not workplace appropriate, unless your workplace is cool with the eqiuvalent of Fantasy Burning Man.

In every sense of the word. (No but really though, it gets pretty graphic as the person inevitably trapped inside the wicker man is tortured and flensed and burns into…something terrible to behold – fair warning).

The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir. Built by the team who brought you Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios unchains its ambitions to bring you an RPG with greater breadth and depth than ever before.

That said, I am absolutely on board with Fantasy Burning Man. I don’t know how long it will be until the game’s release date. But we’ll be keeping a careful eye on Larian’s next project. And their as-yet-unannounced “project Excalibur” which is coming AFTER this one, and is something no one’s seen before.
