Penguin Random House Publisher Services announced Comics Giveaway Day, a new brand competing with Free Comic Book Day, and revealed the titles for 2026. The inaugural Comics Giveaway Day will be on May 2, 2026, the same day as Free Comic Book Day. The situation is now set up for parallel events in comic stores, one led by Universal Distribution, which purchased the Free Comic Book Day brand from Diamond acquirer Sparkle Pop LLC (see “FCBD Acquired”), along with collaborating distributors Lunar Distribution and Diamond UK and its top publisher DC Comics; and the other led by Penguin Random House Publisher Services and its top publisher, Marvel Comics.
Penguin Random House filed a trademark application for the Comics Giveaway Day brand on December 9, the same day that Universal Distribution announced the publishers participating in Free Comic Book Day (see “Universal Reveals More FCBD Details”).
PRH came to play, with its imprints (including BOOM! Studios) accounting for 8 of the 21 titles announced for the event.
Comics Giveaway Day titles will carry differentiated color-coded logos for all ages (green), teen (yellow), and mature reader (red) titles. Titles announced were:
