Goatboy here with an Chaos list that answers the burning 40K question – what the heck can you do with eighteen Noise Marines?
If you’ve read a bit of my stuff this week you know I am trying to get my 18 Noise Marines done over the weekend. I have gotten 6 done, got a scheme lock down, and my wife is out of town. This gives me a lot of night time to just put on a weird horror movie on my iPad and paint some models. Beyond just finding the time I start to ask the question what do I do with them?
Of course you say – well Duh Goatboy use them in an EC army and call it a day. I say sure but I got a few more things to do to get that army done (like make a new Daemon Prince – a hot boi Daemon Prince) so I can’t just slam these 18 and get an army working. This leaves me into thinking what kind of dumb stuff can I do with these loud bois with Chaos Space Marines.
Chaos Space Marines can take up to 500 points of an ally unit of “troops” from Emperor’s Children, Thousand Sons, Death Guard, or World Eaters. They do not get Dark Pacts but they get the detachment rules. Right now it seems the current flavor is to use Noise Marines to help show up some shooting and get you a pile of damage 3 options on the table top. Plus they are pretty tough dudes sitting at Toughness 5 and the Sonic Blasters are pretty smoking too.
Friendly Noise Marines – Putting The List Together?
Alright – so what Detachment do I use? I could go Veterans of the Long War but that style of play doesn’t always fit. I think they have a lot of tricks but not always what I like. I could go Creations of Bile as again that gives me other tricks as well. Getting your Noise Marines to hit on a 2+ might be good but I don’t know if I want to go that direction. I think the initial thought would be to go Renegade Raiders and utilize the armies rule of getting better at shooting on objectives and having assault on all your weapons. Plus my army is Red and that means it goes faster per science.
Let’s get the whole point of this down.
Allied Units
Noise Marines X 6 – Blastmaster X 2, Sonic Blaster X 4 – 145pts

Noise Marines X 6 – Blastmaster X 2, Sonic Blaster X 4 – 145pts
Total – 435pts
From there we got to figure out what to support these jokers with. I think a very simple make up of Legionaries plus Chaos Lord would work out real fine. This gives you a nice mini Bully unit that can come out of a Rhino and punch up as needed. With the Chaos Lords Daemon Hammer and the 2 Heavy Weapons in the squad it can add up to some decent damage. The unit also gets Reroll wound rolls of 1 and full reroll if the enemy is on an objective. They happen to be on an Objective too the AP goes up by 1 as well making the unit even deadlier.
Let’s go with 3 of those and 3 Rhinos. A unit of Legionaries and Noise Marines can ride around in a Rhino like some unruly Preteen soccer team angry they ran out of Gatorade and Orange Slices. They are probably going on and on about 6 7 as well driving the Chaos Lord crazy. I feel like dropping one of the Legionaries for a Nemesis Claw will give me some play into Victrix and other punchy units that need Stratagems to survive. We’ll go ahead and add a Master of Executions to the Claw unit as well.

That gives us some options and now we need some Anti tank options. I could go with the 2 Vindicators or Forge Fiends but thought – why not use some Obliterators. I got a bunch and think they could be fun. Plus the ability to get Assault weapons might be handy as they can move around the table faster and get some damage out into the enemy. Let’s go with 3 Units as we will deep strike them in.

We got some points left over so let’s do some simple things. I think 2 units of Cultists will help as a method to sticky back field objectives. We also need some Secondary support options so it makes me feel like some Chaos Bikers might be helpful. We could get a full 3 pack and it lets us have a unit we can “sacrifice” onto an objective.

Let’s get this all added up so you can see it. This is another Goatboy pick units you like and times it by 3. I just like the idea of having these tough little boxes that can run out and punch you hard if you get too close. Plus the damage can be pretty high to allow you to quickly remove things.

This feels like this list is flexible, and has a lot of stuff that can do things – you have some no LOS shooting from Oblits and a ton of powerful shooting from other parts. It doesn’t feel like any one thing is important to the army as a whole which I think can be important in this current meta. As things die you need to be able to clap back with enough force to hopefully truly trade with the enemy.
Give it a try – FOR THE WARMASTER!
