Kislev? Campaign books? Let’s take a look at what books we could get in 2026 for The Old World.
2025 was a stellar year for the old world. We got no less than 9 books and a whole army out of it. While 2026 promises to be just as good, we don’t really know what we are going to get. We know that the 3rd Cathay book is coming out sometime in the 1st quarter of the year. Past that, we don’t really know what to expect. I’m not sure we will get quite as many books, but that’s because all the armies are now out. With them all being out, we are really entering the unknown with little released and only small teasers. So let’s take a look at what books we might get this year.
Another Matched Play Guide/Alamance
Last year, we got the matched play guide, which was a great boost for the game. It’s not uncommon for a lot of the big GW games to get a book like this every year. So, given that, I think it’s definitely on the table. I would love more missions and secondary objectives, and the like, to freshen up the game again. I also think it would be really nice to have all the various rules for playing smaller games (such as Path to Glory and Battle March) in one easy book. This would be a boon for event organizers and overall just help keep things fresh. It’s also a place they can tweak comp if they feel that is needed.
Legacy Armies?
Another option for this year, of course, would be to bring back some Legacy armies fully into the game. Now look, I don’t really think this is going to happen, at least not in the form most people want. But I suppose we can’t 100% rule it out. Another option might be to bring in an Army of Infamy that, like Renegade Crowns, has no models but is a full army. Putting this in a book for say “Undead Counts” or something like that could be a backdoor way of updating their rules. I dunno.
More “Campaign” Style Books
I think this is a pretty safe bet. We’ve gotten a couple of these books already that give updates to a couple of armies, advance the storyline, and add a new rule of two into the game. Both War of Settra’s Fury and The Razing of Westerland were great books that really added a lot to the game, and I’d love to see a lot more in this vein. I do think the one issue is that so far, the storylines they’ve been pushing with the couple of books don’t equally include all the factions. Orcs, High and Wood Elves, and Brettonians have kind of been attached to the plots they’ve been pushing. That can be easily changed, of course, and I think this is likely the future of the game for now.
Kislev
Lastly, this could be the year we get Kislev! 2025 saw Cathay added to the game, with its second wave coming early this year. If they aren’t going to bring in any of the Legacy armies, then the best way to get a really big release with new models is to bring in Kislev. Based on the early dev diaries, they seemed to be working on them about the same time as Cathay, and since Cathay done them, they would be the next on the block.
We don’t have any real hints that Kislev is coming, but it would make sense. Like Cathay, I suspect Kislev would also get us a few books’ worth of content. Unless GW breaks from the Arcane Journal format and gives us a bigger book, but they seem against doing that. Kislev is the next obvious step for the game, and having it and Cathay would really set it apart from WFB and make The Old World into its own game. So here’s hoping.
Let us know which books you think we will get this year, down in the comments!

Abe is that rare thing, an Austin local born and raised here. Though he keeps on moving around, DC, Japan, ETC., he always seems to find his way back eventually. Abe has decades of experience with a wide range of tabletop and RPG games, from historicals, to Star Wars to D&D and 40K. He has been contributing to BOLS since almost the start, back when he worked at and then owned a local gaming store. He used to be big into the competitive Warhammer tournament scene but age has mellowed him and he now appreciates a good casual match. He currently covers Warhammer: The Old World, as well as all things Star Wars, with occasional dabbling in other topics. Abe mourned over loss of WFB for its entire hiatus, but has been reborn like a gaming phoenix with Warhammer: The Old World.
