In ‘Lorwyn Eclipsed’ Prerelease Kits; WotC Asks Retailers to Open Extra Kits to Replace Promos
Wizards of the Coast accidently released cards for Magic: The Gathering – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the prerelease kits for Lorwyn Eclipsed.
The Turtles cards made an early appearance at recent Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease events (see “‘Lorwyn Eclipsed’ Prerelease“). As prerelease events began on Friday, WotC realized that the promo foils meant for the Magic: The Gathering – TMNT set somehow ended up in the Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease kit in the single-card, foil card pack that usually contains a date-stamped promo. Here is the statement WotC released on social media upon officially recognizing the promo error at 8:22 PM on Friday night:
“We’re aware of reports of Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease kits containing foil promo cards from an incorrect set. This is not intentional and, if possible, stores should replace these promos with the appropriate ECL promos from other prerelease kits. If stores do not have enough available, players can play with the incorrect cards. Stores are also encouraged to communicate with their WPN representatives for more information.”
WotC’s proposed solution to the TMNT promo card insert error turned out to be a somewhat flawed plan. Word of WotC’s error hit social media earlier in the day, causing fans to rush to stores for prerelease events on Friday night. Fan enthusiasm over being able to get TMNT promos early caused the availability of extra prerelease product to be few and far between as a number of stores sold out their prerelease events.
