Green Ronin Publishing has launched Mutants & Masterminds 4E, a new edition of the classic superhero RPG, onto Kickstarter.
The last edition of Mutants & Masterminds was published back in 2010 (see “‘Mutants & Masterminds Third Edition’“), and became one of the top-selling RPGs for Q1 2011 (see “Top 5 RPGs–Q1 2011“). The new edition offers players the same Mutants & Masterminds system from the previous editions, that operates on a single D20 and only requires a Hero’s Handbook to play, but with updates and a few rules clarifications. The hero creation system is also streamlined, with 15 base hero archetypes for players to choose from.
The new Hero’s Handbook also contains a complete system of superpowers that have been updated and playtested. Designers have also added an additional action option for reactions, and the new edition features all-new artwork with a wraparound cover by Sean Izaakse (see “‘Imperial Guardians’“). The campaign has a retailer pledge level; for $50, they can reserve a spot to buy the Hero’s Handbook, Game Master’s Kit, and Conditions Cards at a 50% discount.
