Of all the ARCs that you might face, by far the deadliest is the ARC Orbiter. Its very approach is enough to send everyone scattering.

Something every scavenger should know well is the dangerous approach of an ARC Orbiter. Heralded by explosions and a meteoric fall, these machines are so dangerous that their appearance is an apocalypse unto itself. Or, at least, it’s enough to signal the end of a raid topside.

ARC Orbiter – Design And Capabilities

Of all the ARC out there, the Orbiter is probably the one about which the least is known. While it’s true that no one knows much about any of them, the Orbiter is a particularly difficult one to get a read on. Partially because if one shows up, it’s game over.

And a big part of what makes the Orbiter so deadly is that it always seems to know precisely when and where to show up. Nobody knows exactly what triggers the approach of one, aside from a group of Raiders spending about twenty minutes or so topside in a single location. Questions abound as to whether or not they are receiving data from ARC units on the ground, or some kind of satellite tracking.

Or perhaps, they themselves are doing the tracking. Monitoring the scoured surface of the Earth for signs of activity. For disruption to the ARC. Because even if a Raider doesn’t antagonize the drones, an ARC Orbiter always comes calling.

And when it does, it arrives in flame. If you watch the sky when it approaches, you’ll see it. Streaking across the sky like a meteor. It fragments into burning arcs that strike towards the Area of Operation. When one strikes, the whole region is shrouded in dust.

A massive shockwave knocks out most. Those who are able to escape in this time are true legends. If you don’t get to extract, you never get to see the actual body of the Orbiter. Some theorize that it is a particularly nasty ARC. Too large to be stopped by even the strongest of Raider weaponry.

Others say it’s a cloud of nanites that sweeps through – that the dust itself is the payload of the Orbiter, and it’s designed to take out humans. Which is why the Rust Belt is not just a desolate wasteland from being nuked, again and again. We may never know what an ARC Orbiter really is. All we do know, is that when Shani warns that there’s five minutes because one is approaching, it’s time to head for extraction.
