Katakros and the legions of Ossiarch Bonereapers are on the move. We’ve got even more of their rules to look at for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.
Yesterday, we got a look at how Relentless Disciple will work within the new Battletome for the Ossiarch Bonereapers. We also got a look at Katakros and a few of his abilities. But that was just the tip of the well disciplined spear. Today, we’re getting a look at MORE of their rules. Specifically, we’re getting a look at the new stuff coming to the tabletop.
Due to the relentless nature of the bone-tithe, the Mortisans of the Ossiarch Bonereapers never lack resources in their endless pursuit of greater and more efficient bone constructs for the osseous legions. With the fighting fiercer than ever during the Hour of Ruin, they have been commanded by Katakros to innovate and provide solutions for a changing battlefield. As a result, the Ossiarch Bonereapers have a whole pile of new units, from thundering chariots to stealthy assassins.
Ossiarch Bonereapers New Unit Rules
First up, we’re getting a look at a unit that’s been a long time coming. We’ve got the new archer unit of Mortek Triaxes! Finally, the OBR are using that disciple to strike at range with withering arrow fire!
Their Osseous Bows aren’t bad! You can see the stats of them above but what really makes this unit a problem are their Balefire Braziers. These are effectively markers for the unit. They act as a visual reminder that the target enemy unit has been debuffed in terms of their control score and also marked with an inability to heal or return slain models to their unit. I really can’t wait to get a unit or two of these guys on the battlefield. I think they are going to be a great addition to the Ossarich Bonereaper arsenal!
Next up, we’ve got a few teasers about the Chariots coming. There are two versions of this unit. The Liege-Kavalos and then the standard Kablos War Chariot.
Each Liege-Kavalos on War Chariot is a Masterful Charioteer, able to undertake swift defensive manoeuvres that make them even harder to hit, granting them Ward (5+). By following their command, up to two nearby Kavalos War Chariots are also granted the ward, so three-pronged assaults are common.
Hopefully you can see how these units are really designed to work together in concert. Ideally, with 2 other chariots. Getting to activate them and have them slam into the enemy to cause mortal wounds is really nice. On top of that, the chariots also have their own benefits for charging into the enemy. That’s thanks to their scything assault!
They also have another nasty trick thanks to their javelins. They have a Pinning Attack which isn’t a weapon profile. Instead, it’s an ability that requires a 3+ to go off. It will deal 1 mortal damage but that’s not the best part. It also prevents the targeted unit from making pile-in moves for the rest of the turn! That’s a massive way to cut down on return attacks and I think this ability is really going to surprise some folks.
Another new unit are the Mortis Reapers. These assassins have movement tricks thanks to their No Escaping the Tithe ability which allows them to reposition very quickly. But that’s not the only trick they have to scurry around.
Necrocaches is basically a really nasty smoke bomb. It causes mortal wounds but it also allows the unit to pop away from an enemy unit and out of combat. Keep in mind that it can be triggered at the end of any turn as well…
Finally for reveals we have the new on-foot version of a Liege-Mortek. They are the lower ranking officers of the Mortek but that doesn’t mean you should underestimate them. They have a brutal and Clinical Efficiency about them. This allows them to order another Mortek unit to fight immediately after them and it grants them +1 to hit. Additionally, you can also opt to have them order a unit to shoot instead . And yes, that means they can fire into combat!
Having a Liege-Mortek lead a charge into the enemy and immediately have follow-up attacks from a supporting unit is a great way to break an enemy’s assault. Or to create a hole for your own forces. I’m going to be looking for a way to squeeze one (or two) of these in my lists!
The Ossiarch Bonereapers are going up for pre-order this weekend. Are you ready for them?
