Do you want to feel more daring in your games of Pathfinder? The new Risks & Rewards playtest has two new classes for you!
Adventuring is a dangerous, risky business in the first place. Especially in Pathfinder 2E, where the machinations of master villains, demon lords, rogue deities, and more often underscore even the most innocuous adventures. Fortunately, Paizo has some new ideas that are all about the risks and rewards of adventuring in the aptly named Risks & Rewards playtest.
In the new two-month-long playtest, you can try out two new classes, the Daredevil and the Slayer, and find out just how much risk you’re willing to take in your games.
Pathfinder 2E’s Risks & Rewards Playtest – Two New Classes, Loads Of New Gameplay
The Daredevil and the Slayer debuted last Friday during the Paizo Live stream. But the official playtest is open as of today. It runs through April 10th, which is plenty of time to put these classes through the paces.
In fact, to make it easier, Paizo and Demiplane will be hosting a free character builder for the Daredevil and Slayer classes. So even if you can’t play, you can go through the motions of leveling up and seeing all the features.
“Risk is an integral part of every exciting adventure. Do you open that next door in the dungeon, heedless of what might be lurking behind it? Do you cast that high-rank spell to take out your current foe, or do you save it for a tougher encounter? Do you risk angering a god by destroying a dangerous artifact? Whatever you’re willing to risk, if you survive the effects of your choices, numerous rewards await you—be they treasure, experience, or the glory that comes from being bold adventurers! While any heroic character can live in the space between risk and reward, we’re on the cusp of introducing two new classes who thrive there.”
And both of the new classes play with luck and skill in different measure. The Daredevil is all about running headfirst into danger. With an adrenaline mechanic that can sometimes get you into trouble, but which also fuels your daring abilities, this is a class for people who get bored during the planning phase.
The Slayer, on the other hand, is all about monster-hunting. It represents the luck of the draw, in some ways, because they use their knowledge of creatures to gain advantages. They can also take different trophies that enhance their weapons and armor – which can lead to rushing into a fight to get a shiny new ability.
We’ll take a closer look at both classes soon, but you can check out the playtest right now at the link below!
