Neon Odyssey is a space opera, a complete reimagining of D&D, coming to you soon from the makers of The Crooked Moon.

I love a good total conversion mod. And we’re seeing a fair few of these lately – the latest is Avantris Entertainment, whom you might recognize from Legends of Avantris and The Crooked Moon (one of the most successful D&D Kickstarters of all time); now they’re back with Neon Odyssey, a space opera reimagining of D&D with the same in-depth chunkiness that brought you a whole world of folk horror.

Neon Odyssey – Coming Soon To Kickstarter

Neon Odyssey promises to be big, whatever else it may be. It’ll span three books (a player’s guide, dm/setting toolkit, and an “expansion book”), each packed full of new toys to play with. On the player side of things, you’ll have a brand new interpretation of the Artificer, because that seems to be the first thing that every big conversion module does: reinvent the Artificer. This time it’s the Machinist.

But if that doesn’t do it for you, you might try one of the more than 40 new subclasses, 30 new species, or new rules for starfighters and other starships. All the stuff you need to make a space D&D hero.

“Coming to Kickstarter this May, Neon Odyssey is Avantris Entertainment’s largest project to date, built for both longtime players and newcomers who want to blast off to the stars, explore the galaxy, and chart their own cosmic destiny. Drawing inspiration from iconic sci-fi films, retro video games, classic animation, and pop culture nostalgia, Neon Odyssey is built to provide gaming groups everything they need to experience an unforgettable and cinematic space opera with friends, with a plethora of galactic Game Master tools in a vibrant campaign setting or an astral arsenal of player options to soar among the stars.”

Set in its own bespoke campaign setting, Neon Odyssey promises to be “cinematic, character-driven” and also “optimistic.” These days, I think we could all use a little more optimism. As for how it plays, we’ll have to wait and see – but this Kickstarter campaign is ambitious, to be certain.

With the Kickstarter launching in June of 2026, you can expect more details as the ramp up to launch comes out. So check back for more information about mechanics, character options, or even the setting, called Stardust Rhapsody, which I’m pretty sure was a season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
