That Godzilla Roleplaying Game from GW legends Jervis Johnson, Mark Latham, and Gav Thorpe has hit Kickstarter with a Kaiju roar.
Get ready to fight all sorts of giant monsters as they tear through near-future versions of all your favorite landmarks, because Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game is here. Announced back in November, the Godzilla RPG is set in the world of the IDW comics, where the world has been ravaged by kaiju attacks but has also been transformed by a new source of energy, ‘kai-sei’, which accompanies them. Hm. Energy and giant destructive monsters are interconnected – there’s probably a lesson there. Regardless, the new RPG from legendary Warhammer developers is on Kickstarter now. Let’s check it out!
Godzilla: The Roleplaying Game – Kickstarting Now
In the Godzilla RPG, players are members of G-Force, an organization dedicated to fighting or mitigating the damage done by rampaging kaiju while also investigating the mysterious energy source known as kai-sei. You are the “boots on the ground” in a world where those boots are dwarfed by city-block-sized feet.
Which is all well and good, but how does it play? Well, the game has a bespoke system designed by legendary developers, as mentioned before. Using two decks of playing cards, you will pit your skills and luck against the GM’s ‘Crisis Deck’, which dictates the rising action of any adventure.
As the crisis clock ticks down, danger draws closer. Chaos rises and leaves the players with less and less time to accomplish their objectives before disaster strikes. I like the idea of built-in time pressure for each session. It evokes the pacing of a good Godzilla movie.

At the heart of the Kickstarter is the RPG core rulebook. It’s everything you need to play (except for the decks of cards but those aren’t hard to find). Packed full of lore and the rules and even an introductory campaign, this book will have you creating custom kaiju, facing down classic monsters like Godzilla or King Ghidoroah, and more.
