When it comes to 5th-Generation Mobile Suits, the RX-105 Gundam shows just how far you can push technology if you really try.
The Mobile Suits of the 5th-Generation might be the deadliest yet. Originally developed by Anaheim Electronics, Mobile Suits like the RX-105 Ξ Gundam and its sibling, the RX-104FF Penelope, took the latest advances in technology (like the Minovsky Flight Systems and Beam Barriers) and really showed what kind of horrors could be unleashed if you try to fuse all your weapons of war into a single platform.
The RX-105 Ξ Gundam – Design & Capabilities
Known as the Xi Gundam or the ‘Ksi Gundam’, depending on how deep into the pronunciation you want to get, the RX-105 Ξ Gundam boasted top-of-the-line arms and armor. This made it particularly deadly in the events of the Mafty attack on the Adelaide conference.
Its 26-meter high, 80-ton chassis was constructed out of Gundarium Alloy, or Luna Titanium, the same material the RX-78 Gundam was made of. The RX-105 could withstand a punishing amount of firepower. Adding to its defensive capabilities was an external shield that could be mounted on its left arm. This allows it to deflect even Mega Particle Cannons.
But its heavy defense was not exclusive of a potent offense. The Xi Gundam boasted top-of-the-line weaponry. This starts with a Beam Rifle that could output more than double the energy of previous models. It was so destructive it could take out a Gustav Karl in a single shot.
It wouldn’t be a Gundam if it doesn’t come with at least one beam saber. And the RX-105 comes with two. They have boosted energy output, allowing them to cut through heavy armor or to extend a second “blade” from the bottom of the handle.
The Xi Gundam also carried a surprising amount of missile armament. Its forearms and knees both served as ‘triple missile’ launchers, allowing it to strike at range. Even in Minovsky particle-rich environments, the RX-105 Gundam still had missile options. This is thanks to its funnel missile array, which used Psycommu-guided warheads to track targets in any situation.
Though in many ways, the true weapon of the Xi Gundam was its mobility. It could adopt a flight form; the Minovsky Flight Units strapped to its shoulder armor worked in concert with a Beam Barrier system, enabling it to reach sypersonic speeds. Thanks to the conical vortex of the beam barrier, the RX-105 could hit speeds upwards of Mach 2, enabling it to be an omnipresent threat on most battlefields.
Tye RX-105 Xi Gundam is all about flight AND fight!
