Halo: Flashpoint is bringing on the Big Team Battles. Today we’re getting more on how those work and also new Detachments for standard play.

I’m excited to see Big Team Battles in action for Halo: Flashpoint. Mantic has been hinting at what this new expansion/mode is bring to the game. It’s dropping in April with the upcoming Noble Team boxed set. Not only are you getting these new rules, you’re also getting the resin figures for Noble Team and the UNSC Man Cannons for new movement opportunities!

Big Team Battles – Bigger Games, More Chaos

On the surface Big Team Battles looks like a Halo: Flashpoint game with double the points and a double-board setup. That translates to games that are 400-500 points each and that play on 8 x 16 cubes (two play maps/mats side-by-side). But there’s even more planned. The expansion booklet included with Noble Team also has 4 all new scenarios to use with the BTB game mode. If you’re curious about the mode, you can check out a preview mission right here. There’s also a few more changes coming to BTB to keep things flowing.

Respawns will have three different options for your BTB games. There’s Regular, None, or Single Use versions of the Respawn mechanic. You can infer what those mean based on the type. Additionally, the normal limit of only picking 2 of any item has been doubled to 4. Which makes sense. Twice the size of a standard game means you’ll need twice the number of items.

Also, BTB isn’t going to be a flash in the pan mode. In the future Mantic is planning on even more scenarios in larger expansions and within the Halo: Flashpoint Index. They put it in bold: this mode of play is here to stay.

There’s also a few more teasers for the future of BTB and Halo: Flashpoint. BTB will be a part of the events you can run for Ranking/Organized Play games. There will be an update to the scoring of tournaments to accommodate the mode. So Tournament Organizers keep an eye out for those options. There’s also going to be a Co-op mode supported for games of BTB. I’m looking forward to learning how that works. And the final teaser is for a “wave of enemies” mode. That ALSO sounds like a blast.

New Detachments Coming To Halo: Flashpoint

Mantic Games has been testing new ways to use the ODST models and the Jiralhanae in games. So they came up with new Detachments for players to use. These are essentially lists that functions like new factions for Halo: Flashpoint. They use existing profiles but may have different costs from the “parent” lists. This is a great way to bust out some “old toys” and get to try out some new tricks with them.

The first two Detachments are the ODST Corps and the Jiralhjanae Hunting Party. The ODST Corps brings the Elite humans of the ODST Corps but without any Spartan Allies. The Jiralhanae Hunting Party represents the Jiralhanae Packs or Tribes that make up the Jiralhanae Society. These are led by an Alpha and are “fiercely loyal to each other.”

These new Detachments also add new Fireteam upgrade options. These can be purchased with points. They include things like new keyword options and even placeable terrain like the UNSC Defense Shields as an example. Additionally, there’s new Special Orders and updated versions of existing ones, too. So keep an eye out for those.

If you want to get you hands all these digital upgrades you can purchase the PDF from the Mantic Store soon. Also, if you’re a subscriber to the Halo: Flashpoint Index, you’ll get access to them as part of that plan, too.

Noble Team is currently up for Pre-Order from Mantic Games. So if you want to get this one, get your pre-order in sooner rather than later!

I can’t wait to play some BTB!
