The first huge expansion for Daggerheart is due out August 25th, and as of today, Darrington Press has revealed the new cover art and more.
The hype is on for Daggerheart’s first expansion, Hope & Fear. This new splatbook is set to add new options for both players and GMs, including new custom fear tokens, as well as a set of trackers. Or on the player side of things, there are four new classes to play with, and two new domains to explore.
All this adds up to a big new expansion that was previously set for “this summer” but as of today, we have the official release date, a cover, and even a developer-led unboxing to explore the various goodies, treats, and delights awaiting you in Hope & Fear, which is due out August 25th.
Daggerheart: Hope & Fear – Coming August 25th
First things first, the most exciting thing about the new book is the four new classes. If you’ve been following the Daggerheart playtest portal, The Void, then you’ve probably seen at least one draft of these so far. There’s the Assassin, the Brawler, the Warlock, and the Witch, each of which had a fairly substantive playtesting round. Here’s a quick summary of each of the new classes:
- Witch: Magical practitioners who commune with the forces of nature and entities from realms beyond. These spellcasters call forth power through craft, combining the tangible and ephemeral by casting spells, murmuring incantations, creating talismans, weaving illusions, and other practices.
- Warlock: Those who’ve traded their lives, or perhaps even their souls, to an otherworldly patron in exchange for incredible power are known as warlocks. Often, these mortals have reached a point of desperation that leads them to make this sacrifice—to protect themselves or a loved one, aid their community, seek vengeance, increase their status, or otherwise further their ambitions.
- Brawler: Experts in unarmed combat, brawlers hone their bodies into lethal weapons. Whether they learned in a structured environment or picked up their skills one fight at a time, the process is always rigorous as brawlers develop their body and mind to work as one.
- Assassin: Masters of inflicting crippling injuries with precise strikes. Unlike those who wield violence as only a means to an end, assassins approach death as a profession.
But then on top of that, there’s a ton of other accessories coming in the cool box. Just take a look at the cover art by Mat Wilma and Dominik Mayer, whose work you’ll have seen if you picked up the original Daggerheart Core Set, standard or deluxe edition (respectively). The standard cover art is pictured above, the deluxe art featured below.
But whichever your edition preference, you can pre-order both as of today. In fact, if you pre-order now, you’ll get a PDF version of the rulebook two weeks before the official release date, so you can start playing early. You’ll also get a discount on the Demiplane Nexus, which is nice if you were also going to get that anyway.
But there’s more. Daggerheart: Hope & Fear is far from the only thing in the works. In the cover art reveal post, Darrington Press, Critical Role’s publishing imprint, promises to reveal even more exciting announcments once Daggerheart celebrates its first anniversary on May 20th, which is a lot closer than you might think.
At any rate, check out the unboxing. If you’re into Daggerheart, you will definitely want to grab this expansion. And soon, it can be yours.
