One of the most powerful things any adventurer can have is information. And these five magic items will help you be forewarned and forearmed.

Sometimes, it really helps to know exactly what you’re going to be up against. You can prepare the right spells. You might even know what damage types to try and bring with you – like not bringing Fire damage to a Red Dragon fight. Knowledge truly is power. And with the right magic items? You’ll have a vast store of it.

Ring of X-Ray Vision

A Ring of X-Ray Vision is a fantastic way to scope out the immediate area without putting yourself in danger of getting caught unaware. It can even let you see into places that you normally might not be able to get into, or discover hidden hallways, doors, rooms, and so on.

This ring lets you see through with X-Ray vision out to thirty feet. You can see through a foot of stone, an inch off metal, and up to three feet of wood or dirt, meaning you can see through quite a bit of things. It’s really hard to build an X-Ray-vision-proof structure, and most aren’t. Even in a cave you’ll see into individual caverns.

Crystal Ball of Mind Reading

Any Crystal Ball will do, but if you really want to be armed with the most amount of information, then the Crystal Ball of Mind Reading will position you for success. When you use it, you can cast Scrying, which gives you all sorts of vision/information on unseen places. But then you can also cast Detect Thoughts within 30 feet of the magical sensor, meaning you can probe the minds of any creatures that happen to be nearby and figure out quite a bit more than you might otherwise know.

Spirit Board

Sometimes you have to ask the spirits for answers. Luckily, in D&D that’s an acceptable option that won’t get you cursed! You can use a Spirit Board to cast Augury and Commune and get some guidance from beyond the pale about what your different courses of actions might entail.

Wand of Enemy Detection

What if you had the equivalent of a radar that let you know whenever hostile creatures are near? Scanning through walls is one thing. But the Wand of Enemy Detection will, when active, let you sense Hostile creatures within 60 feet of you. It will, specifically, point you to the nearest hostile creature, though it won’t tell you how far away it is. But it will sense the creature even if it’s invisible, hidden, or ethereal!

Sending Stone

Finally, all the information in the world won’t do you any good if you can’t communicate it with the rest of the class. That’s where Sending Stones come in. These stones let you communicate via the Sending Spell which lets you send messages to whoever holds the other stone. So you can keep the party informed without having to say things out loud.
