Looks like WotC is getting back into the Actual Play business with a new series, Dungeon Masters, featuring some familiar faces.

It has been a little while since WotC dipped one of its toes into the Actual Play waters. But, it seems like that time is at hand once again with the premiere of a trailer for a new D&D actual play series titled Dungeon Masters. Featuring a few familiar faces for fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 (and other games), this new show is all about the upcoming Ravenloft: Horrors Within. Let’s take a look.

‘Dungeon Masters’ Shows Off Upcoming Ravenloft Book

So first and foremost, Dungeon Masters is definitely a part of the new “season of X” initiative that D&D is taking. First up, we have the Season of Horrors, and that means Ravenloft. It’s featured in the first campaign pretty heavily.

The players are playing with PCs using the new subclasses included in the upcoming Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. There’s a Reanimator Artificer, a Grave Domain Cleric, and a Shadow Sorcery Sorcerer. Plus a Winter Walker Ranger from Heroes of Faerun, which, while not explicitly Ravenloft, fits the tone at least.

Dungeon Masters is our brand-new official Dungeons & Dragons actual play series launching on April 22nd at 6:30pm PT with both Episode 1 and 2, showcasing unreleased content from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.

Dungeon Masters stars Jasmine Bhullar (DesiQuest, Dimension 20) as Dungeon Master, joined by Mayanna Berrin (Dispatch, The Dungeon Run), Christian Navarro (13 Reasons Why, Forgotten Realms), Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate III), and Devora Wilde (Baldur’s Gate III).

But it’s not just the new classes. The campaign is set in Ravenloft as something threatens Lord Sorth and the Demiplane of Dread itself. And what’s more, WotC wants you to “adventure alongside the action” with a new initiative to drop “playable weekly encounters” after each episode, starting with a Zombie Clot Encounter coming April 23rd, with extra bonus stuff if you pre-order the Ravenloft book, obviously.

You can find out more about the new series and the accompanying releases at the link below. Personally I’m excited to see the Baldur’s Gate 3 actors playing different characters. I will say this smacks of marketing, but that doesn’t make it inherently bad – but it does sort of put the hackles up just a little. I guess it all depends on both how much rein the DM and characters are given to play, and how much fun it is to watch the show. You can judge for yourself on April 22nd when the first and second episodes premiere.
