Put some swash in your buckle with Kobold Press’ Pirates & Plunder, a new sourcebook for D&D and Tales of the Valiant all about pirates.

Though I guess it’s not all about pirates. It’s plunder as well. Actually, Pirates & Plunder has a good deal of nautical adventure rules of all sorts. Whether you want to sail the seas as an adventurer with larceny and plunder in your heart, or as an explorer who looks for opportunity on the various islands of the briny deep, there are plenty of paths to tread. Let’s check it out.

Pirates & Plunder – Sweeping Options For Naval Adventure

“Pirate” is such a great genre for a D&D campaign. It blends lightheartedness with a bit of melodramatics – you know, the perfect ingredients for adventure. And in the new Pirates & Plunder splatbook, which has already shot past its goal on Kickstarter, you will find enough nautical delights to satisfy even the saltiest of sea dogs.

There are tons of new rules for players and GMs alike. Starting with a whopping eight new subclasses, including the Shanty Bard, Privateer Fighter, Seaborn Witch, and, of course, a Gunmage Sorcerer, which sounds very fun. But you can also find new lineages, like the Sea Dragonborn, the Deep Ones, and the Ratfolk.

And on the DM side of things? Even more awaits. There are advanced rules for black powder and firearms, allowing you to get a little more musket-y with your campaign if that’s what you like. There’s also a new set of rules for shipwrecks and escaping from them, so you can race against the waterline and encroaching flame when a pirate battle goes awry.

And of course, an expanded set of rules for naval combat. After all, what’s the point of a pirate book if you’re not going to have pirate battles above a whirling vortex that leads to a kraken’s lair or something?

That’s all just the core book. There are plenty of add ons and exclusives in the work, including a digital Ship Tracker so your crew can keep track of their ship, detailing everything from crew to cargo and navigation and weaponry. So keep an eye out for more as the Kickstarter campaign continues.

It might just be time to dust off the ol’ 1,000gp spyglass and see what else is out there beyond the horizon. The Pirates & Plunder Kickstarter campaign runs for the next 30 days, so back while you can!
