It was a busy week in Hollywood, here’s a new round-up of the action!
Netflix co-founder and Chairman Reed Hastings will leave the company’s board of directors in order to pursue philanthropy and other pursuits, according to the company’s Q1 2026 investor letter. Hastings co-founded Netflix in 1997, and helped push Netflix into becoming a massive worldwide digital movie and TV delivery platform, thereby ending the reign of packaged media as consumers’ primary way of purchasing home entertainment (see “The Decline of the Disc“). Although his exit from the company may have been telegraphed in 2023, when he stepped down as co-CEO, his departure represents a generational change in leadership at Netflix.
Wizards of the Coast will launch an actual-play Dungeons & Dragons series on YouTube on April 22 with a two-episode special. Bhullar (DesiQuest, Dimension 20) will be the Dungeon Master, with Mayanna Berrin (Dispatch, StoryQuest), Christian Navarro (13 Reasons Why, Forgotten Realms: Tears of Selune), Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate III), and Devora Wilde (Baldur’s Gate III) filling out the cast. The first campaign is in the Ravenloft world, tying into Ravenloft: The Horrors Within, out June 16 (see “‘Ravenloft’“).
Toho released a teaser trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero (see below). This movie is the sequel to Godzilla Minus One (see “‘Godzilla Minus One’ Sequel“); it will hit theaters on November 6, 2026. Godzilla Minus One set a new record as the highest-grossing live-action Japanese film in domestic box office history (see “Kaiju Breaks Record“).
Reginald Hudlin (see “Reginald Hudlin“) and King Features will develop a live-action The Phantom series and a Static Shock movie, according to Variety. The Phantom is a Golden Age comic strip character created by Lee Falk in 1936, who had most recently returned in a The Phantom solo series by Mad Cave Studios (see “‘The Phantom’ #0“). Hudlin also continues to develop a Static Shock feature film based on the DC Comics/Milestone character (see “’Static Shock’ Movie“).
Lucasfilm released a final trailer for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (see below). This movie will hit theaters on May 22, 2026 (see “‘Star Wars: Mandolorian & Grogu’“).
Paramount Pictures and Legendary unveiled a new trailer for Street Fighter (see below). This movie, starring Jason Momoa as Blanka; Roman Reigns as Akuma; Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog and WWE Champion Cody Rhodes as Guile, will head to theaters on October 16, 2026 (see “‘Street Fighter’“).
Amazon MGM Studios revealed the title of the next Spaceballs movie via a teaser (see below). The teaser features Mel Brooks explaining why he had changed the title of Spaceballs 2 from Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money (a joke from the first movie) to Spaceballs: The New One. This movie will star Rick Moranis (see “Returns for ‘Spaceballs 2’“) and be in theaters on April 23, 2027.
