Armoured vehicles, from light scout cars to rumbling battle tanks, are essential when fighting in the rad-blasted wastes of Armageddon. Today we’re looking at two new Detachments from the upcoming book Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick which allow the Astra Militarum to make extensive use of such war machines.

Astra Militarum Armageddon Detachments

First up we have the Armoured Infantry Detachment. This one is really geared for the new transports and faster/lighter armored units. It’s the Mechanized Guard once again!

As you can see from the ability above this detachment allows Officers to give orders to Squadrons. If that doesn’t raise your eyebrows a bit, then you might need to let that sink in. Anyhow, this Detachment also comes with it’s own Order, too. On My Signal allow for a “counter-move” when an enemy ends 9″ away. That D6″ move could save you from a charge or something else devastating.

In addition, there’s also the extra stratagems this detachment brings. Opening Salvo give a unit that disembarked from a transport a +1 to wound which is always useful.

Combined Fire not only denies the enemy the Benefit of Cover, but it also gives other Armoured Skirmisher units against the target(s) +2 strength. Both of those are quite useful for taking on tougher foes!

But that’s for the little guys. This next detachment is for your BIG guns.

Steel Hammer Detachment

The Steel Hammer detachment is exactly what it sounds like. This one is “all about smashing the largest tanks you can muster right into your opponent’s lines” and that’s something I can get behind. Bust out the Baneblade for this one Tank Commanders. It’s time to make it your Warlord.

Jumping down to the bottom the Ceaseless Cannonade, you can make Astra Militarum Titanic units Characters. And you know what that implies…

The main detachment rule allows you to fire “danger close” which is to say you can shoot you guns into enemies within Engagement Range. The one catch here is that no other friendly units can also be within Engagement Range of that same unit. On top of that, you also don’t suffer a to-hit penalty for firing your weapons at those units like you might normally get.

To top that off, there’s also new enhancements and stratagems. We’re got a couple of teasers above. Assault Hatches makes your Titanic Transports (which can be characters) super effective at delivering their payload into the enemy. Engine of Wrath also makes your Titan units serious melee threats! 6 extra attacks AND -2 AP is no joke. It might actually make folks second guess charging them in the first place.
