A new Armageddon Ork Battalion is coming to Warhammer 40,000. It’s time to break this down and see what sort of deal we’re getting.
The Orks are launching a renewed assault on Armageddon. With that attack the Orks are gearing up with a new fast moving Battalion. It’s worth noting that the new Speedwaaagh! Detachment is also available in Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick and this box is perfect for that detachment. That said, we’re not 100% sure on the exact retail price but I’ve got a few pricepoints so we can gauge what it the savings will be.
Ork Armageddon Battalion Pricing Breakdown
Contents
Total Individual MSRP = $258
Total Estimated Savings:
- At $170 = $88
- At $190 = $68
- At $210 = $48
As you can see there’s $258 worth of Ork units in the Battalion. So if the price is in the $200 ballpark it’s still a nice discount. I think the next question is if this “is really worth it for the tabletop though?” That’s a tougher question. You’ll have to answer that one on a personal level. But I can help. Ask yourself “Do I wanna go FAST?”
We just saw the Speedwaaagh! Rules and they are literally tearing across the tabletop. This box is quite literally built to take advantage of these rules. Deffkoptas with their Death From Above ability and a 24″ move honestly sound a little crazy! I can very easily see this Battalion supercharging a Speedwaaagh! army.
Next Steps?
I know that Wazdakka is out at the same time but I think he’s a natural Warlord option if you want to go with the Speedwaaagh! army. He’s going to be leading the charge anyhow so you might as well have some more units that can keep up. This battalion checks that box. So he’s a must buy, too.
Aside from that, I think you’ve got more options from there. Wazdakka makes your warbikes battleline. So you could load up on Bikes. Or you could grab some Trukks and boyz and load-up on that front. Going fast is great! Having more units to take and hold or advance deeper is even better. You’ll have to decide on what mix of bikes, trukks, and infantry you want in your army.
As a victim of the old school Nob Bikers army from many editions ago, I’ve got a healthy respect for Orks on Bikes personally. If I were going to play the Speedwaaagh! with Wazdakka at the helm, I’d go heavy on the bikes…but that’s just me. That does make list building pretty easy though.
Oh and one more “must buy” thing is the Armageddon book. Unfortunately. You’re going to want those books if you want to play Speedwaaagh! because, well, you’ll need the rules. Now, if you’re not interested in playing the Speedwaaagh! then all of this is kind of a moot point. This battalion is really just more Deffkoptas and a couple of weird ork vehicles at that point. Could you make them work without the Speedwaaagh! rules? Absolutely. And honestly, you can still get a lot of the same stuff: Bikes, Trukks, battlewagons, boyz, etc. But your mix is going to be different.
As always, download the Munitorum Field Manual and play around with the points. Regardless of the detachment you settle on you’re going to have to know the final points for the units. If you’re just looking to get everything this weekend, I’d still look at bikes and boyz if you’re starting from scratch though. You’ll find a use for them!
Can you ever really go wrong with “More Boyz!” when playing orks?
