The Ork Speedwaaagh! is coming to Armageddon! Let’s see what the fastest orks are bringing to Warhammer 40,000.
There trouble brewing on Armageddon …which goes without saying. The good news for Ork fans is that there are two new detachments coming and both bring the speed in different ways. How you end up using the speed is really up to you. Now let’s see how these Orks are manifesting the Speedwaaagh! on the tabletop!
The Speedwaaagh! roars in with a Detachment Rule that perfectly encapsulates their mad obsession with velocity. Engage your Turbo Boostas to rocket forwards a massive 24”, though with one major drawback – you have to do it in an arrow-straight line, no pivots or shimmies, because your Boyz are far too busy holding on for dear life to steer.
The Speedwaaagh! Unleashed
There’s two major points here to clarify from the Designer’s Notes. First: the move is a straight line ONLY. So be sure the path is clear before you drop them in to Turbo Boosta across the board. Second: No Charges Allowed! Even if there’s another rule that would allow them to charge they are not allowed to charge. Both of those are super important so don’t screw those up and don’t let your opponents try to wiggle around either of them. The 24″ move PLUS their ranged weapons gaining Assault is plenty for that round.
If you’re concerned about not finding clear ground to go the full 24″ distance, then you might want to check out the enhancement built for it: Kustom Shokk Box.
That should allow you to plow forward with ease. Now, once you get there, how are you going to do the Krumpin’? That’s where the stratagems come into play.
Speshul Ammo is perfect to pop after rushing forward on account of you not being able to charge. However, if you’re not hitting the gas ALL the way and you do manage to line-up the charge, you can use Ded Kill Construction to gain Lance and also add 1 to the Damage of your melee weapons, too. for both of these stratagems is going be a game of managing your movement/speed to get into position. Holding the throttle all the way down will get you there so just make sure you’ve got a plan once you’re at the enemy’s doorstep.
Side note: Don’t forget that Wazdakka makes Warbikers battleline. That seems like a perfect fit for this whole detachment if you ask me…
Blitz Brigade – A Different Kind of Speed That Kills
Maybe you’re looking at a Speedwaaagh! style army but don’t want to run ALL the bikes. Maybe you want to mix things up a bit. That’s where the Blitz Brigade comes into play.
Load the boyz up in trukks or wagons and ferry them right into the maw of the enemy. Then, use Eager For The Fight to let them hop out and re-roll their advance and charge rolls. It’s simple but effective! And if you’re worried about your Battlewagons actually making in across the board, the Ork Meks have sorted that out with some new stratagems.
“Impervious is a classic way to shrug off powerful shots from dedicated tank-killers, as it would take Titan-grade weapons to Wound a Battlewagon on a 2+ after a shot of the Mek’s special sauce.”
What I like about Yooz In Trouble Now is allows for an out-of-sequence move. That move can actually deliver your Ork Boyz right in the face of the enemy in engagement range. Talk about a surprise! And if you’re looking to get your Ork Boyz back into their transports to move around that’s where Mount Up, Ladz comes in. That move comes into play after the Fight Phase, too. More surprises!
There’s even more to BOTH of these detachments but you’ll have to see for yourself when they drop with the rest of the Armageddon books.
Gotta Go FAST!
