Archon Studios, makers of the Heroes of Might & Magic III board game, announced a new line of D&D terrain.
It all starts in the Underdark. Well, I suppose technically it all starts with the Heroes of Might & Magic III board game, from Archon Studios, which is probably where you know them from. But soon, as you’ll see, Archon Studios will be responsible for a new line of pre-painted D&D terrain.
And that starts with a delve into the Underdark. One that looks absolutely gorgeous. Ready-to-play, too. All you have to do is assemble it (and there are plenty of different assortments you can throw together), and you’ve got yourself a battlefield that will delight the senses. Well, probably just sight and maybe touch. I could not tell you what this smells or tastes like. But I’ll leave that to you.
Archon Studios’ D&D Terrain – The Underdark Awaits
Pre-painted terrain is a handy way to construct an encounter of any shape or size. Well. As long as the size includes all the tiles that you have stuff for. But as you’ll see, this is actually a pretty extensive kit.
And I believe this is just the first in a series from Archon Studios. As far as pre-painted jobs go, this one looks incredibly well-detailed. I think it’s because they use high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) to get a good sculpt with details that are easy enough for whatever pre-painting process they use. Just look at the results.
“Beneath the world lies the Underdark—a twisting maze of tunnels and ancient caverns, full of hidden threats and lost treasures. Torchlight fades, danger lurks, and every step could be your last.
Made from high-quality HIPS, the Underdark Terrain Set is fully pre-painted, modular, and ready to play out of the box, offering multiple assembly options. Only your imagination is the limit!”
We have come a long way with pre-paints in the decade or so since X-Wing the miniatures game shot the floor through the roof, so to speak. Which is to say, if you told me a decade ago pre-painted minis would look this good, I’d laugh and say “well looks like you altered the timeline.”
