This roundup of TTRPG crowdfunding campaigns end between October 24 to 30. Welcome to Night Vale Roleplaying Game.png

Welcome to Night Vale Roleplaying Game from Renegade Game Studios

  • END DATE: Oct 30, 2024 at 10:00pm EDT.
  • CROWDFUNDING ON: Backerkit
  • SYSTEM(S): Essence20 Roleplaying System
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $99 + S/H for the PDF and print versions of the four books plus GM screen, dice, and more
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? The Welcome to Night Vale podcast is coming to tabletop. The podcast deals with a desert town that’s normal in all respects if you consider unknown visitors, powers, and secret police part of you know, small town life. The campaign offers four books – Visitor’s Guide, Citizen’s Guide, Host Guide, and the Skeleton Gorge Incident adventure – plus a GM screen and more. In terms of the engine, broadly, Essence20 uses a d20 plus at least one other die, depending on skills and the situation. You compare the roll to a target number. It’s more complicated than that, but imagine one constant in the d20 and one variable die. Mathematically, you’re going to see a bell curve, but the curve will vary from roll to roll. This means that the GM could set a target number that is outside of your bell curve, leading to a higher likelihood of success or failure. The system’s results feel highly randomized, keeping the game rolling and unpredictable. If you’re a fan of the podcast, check out the campaign on Backerkit to see how the world can be realized at your gaming table.

Wrath of the Sea Lich.png

Wrath of the Sea Lich from Gaxx Worx

  • END DATE: Thu, October 24 2024 1:04 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Shadowdark RPG
  • PROJECT TYPE: Adventure
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $60 + S/H for the PDF and print versions of this book
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Here’s a seal of approval for an RPG: A Gygax is writing a third-party adventure for the system. It’s one thing when they own the system, it’s one thing when they’re being paid to freelance for a system, but it’s another type of belief in an RPG engine when Luke Gygax decides to write an adventure for it under his umbrella, putting his money and time in support of your Ennie Award-winning system. Considering it’s Dungeons & Dragons 50th anniversary, it says a lot that Luke is penning a Shadowdark adventure. At Dragon Con 2024, Luke Gygax let me know that this adventure was coming, so I’ve been interested in seeing the results. Set in Luke Gygax’s World of Okkorim, this adventure ports Oculus of Senrahbah adventure from 5e (2014) to Shadowdark. This isn’t a one-to-one port, this adventure has been “remastered the entire series, the encounters are rebalanced, and the entire work is reformatted to fit the Old School aesthetic of Shadowdark.” If you want a Shadowdark adventure from Luke Gygax, this Kickstarter awaits.

  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: AU$54 for the PDF version of the book and POD discount coupon for a copy of the book
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Since we’re on the subject of mechs and games that pull from Powered by the Apocalypse, let’s discuss Violet Core. Built from 1990s flavors like “Grunge, Riot Grrrl, Queercore, anime on LaserDisc, and the Sega Tower of Power,” this game uses d4 and d8 dice pools to determine outcomes. The game and narrative embrace mechs, but the central theme is about personal relationships. Not just friends, but all type of connections. Violet Core’s engine involves the Connection System, a group power ruleset in which your character’s bonuses are based around relationships from friends and loves to rivals, your character’s feelings towards others impact their dice pool. As your connections become deeper, your dice pools increase. If you want to pilot mechs with rules based on those people in your character’s life, this TTRPG may be for you.
