The Soulblight Gravelords are getting new manifestations as well as faction terrain in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.

Games Workshop is giving the Soulblight Gravelords potent new manifestations to bring to the tabletop. They are also bringing back some older kits that have been repurposed as Faction Terrain for both the Soulblight Gravelords and Nighthaunt. It’s fitting as they are both great for bringing the spooky factor. It’s time to take a look at what goodies GW is giving these Death factions.

“Death wizards now have access to magical control, healing, and swarms of bloodsucking bats – everything you need to wage a good undead war – via the Hand of NagashUnholy Requilary and the Sanguine Swarm.”

Soulblight Gravelords Manifestations

The Hand of Nagash is up first. This rather imposing looking hand is manifesting out of a swirl of smoke. It’s coming to the battlefield to mess with your opponent’s ability to move and take objectives.

That’s not exactly what I was expecting this one to do…but I’m okay with this. Messing with movement and cutting down the ability of a unit to control objectives is a great way to score VPs.

Next is the Unholy Requilary. This creepy casket is opening up to reveal the corpse of an elder vampire. But this vamp isn’t coming back to life. The body is being used to fuel other heroes on the battlefield with dark magic now.

It’s another way to heal a hero for the Soulblight Gravelords or add more attacks to them. Depending on how many melee weapons a target has this could be a brutal buff to toss out to them.

Finally, we have the Sanguine Swarm which is bringing all sorts of Leeching Bites to the field. This is actually two bases of bats that are going to nip at your opponent’s forces. They have to stay within 9″ of each other but can attack independently. It’s basically a two-for-one deal.

You’ll find the full rules for these new manifestations in the upcoming Battletome for the Soulblight Gravelords. So keep an eye out for those! You’ll also find the rules for their new faction terrain. Speaking of which…

Soulblight Gravelords Faction Terrain

“The Mortal Realms are littered with sites of great tragedy, marked by gravestones or edifices that the raw energy of death has seeped into over innumerable ages. These Cursed Sepulchres become lodestones for fell necromantic power – their very stones and wrought iron embellishments palpably exuding grim energy. “

The dead don’t rest easy in the Mortal Realms. Especially with all that necromantic power flowing around. These gravesites will act as a Locus of Shyish on the battlefield. This provides the Soulblight Gravelords with a new location to channel summoning spells through on the tabletop.

If you’re a player from previous versions then you’ll recognize this whole setup. These are basically a new version of grave markers in a way. And you’ll have actual terrain for them now.

Now, if you’ve also been around long enough you’ll recognize those structures from a previous kit. The Garden of Morr was what this used to be called.

It was also repackaged as the Sigmarite Mausoleum. But that’s besides the point. It looks like GW is just taking the building sprue and re-selling those as the new faction terrain. I’m not opposed to this as I have a soft spot for those kits. Probably because I built over a dozen of them. That was back in January of 2020. I was prepping them for a GT. But a funny thing happened to the world that year and we never had the GT…

Alternatively, they can also be assembled with the walls flipped and used as a Nexus of Grief for the Nighthaunt army. We don’t have rules for those yet but they will be released on the WarCom website in the future. Oh and yes, you’ll get three of these buildings in each box.

The Soulblight Gravelords are stirring in their graves. The undead are coming soon…
