More news from MagicCon: Chicago—our first look at the covers of the upcoming Dragon Delves adventure anthology!
This past weekend was a big one for D&D. Despite it being MagicCon: Chicago, we got some big announcements and reveals for WotC’s other, much smaller golden goose, Dungeons & Dragons. Perhaps the biggest news was the announcement of a new crossover D&D supplement, bringing the world of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor to D&D.
But MagicCon was also where we got our first look at the covers for the upcoming dragon-themed adventure anthology, Dragon Delves. If you aren’t aware, the book is a collection of 10 different adventures, each featuring a dragon.
Dragon Delves Cover and Alt Cover Revealed
First we have the main cover. This is by Greg Staples, and features the five Chromatic Dragons of D&D. All of these types make an appearance in the book. After all, there are ten adventures, so there are likely to be all ten of the dragons, chromatic and metallic. Though the book does cover levels 1-12. So it’s likely that you’ll be seeing a lot of wyrmlings, and young dragons and won’t get to the good stuff until much much later.
Although arguably, you get to the good stuff right away with the cover art. This is an alternate cover by Justine Jones, showing off the new red dragon in all its blacklight poster glory.
I think it’ll be an interesting challenge of the book to try and highlight the different types of dragons. The metallic dragons will likely not be foes that players fight, but probably involved in their affairs somehow. Though I wouldn’t put it past WotC to want to show off their new empowered metallic dragons—they’re tougher all around.
But, just from the concept alone, I bet we’ll see a WotC D&D hat trick: the return of an adventure that centers around fighting a white dragon wyrmling. They’ve been a part of a starter set in basically every edition of D&D since WotC took over. White dragons are the weakest of all the dragons, and wyrmlings are the weakest version you can get of a dragon. So they’re a natural fit to throw at lower level characters who want to have a hope of victory.
Get ready for dragons and the dungeons in which they dwell?
