Along with a large collection of animals, monsters, and NPCs who can level up alongside your characters, Pets & Sidekicks contains a wealth of player options. New feats, spells, archetypes (subclasses), equipment, class features, and more allow you to integrate companions into your game seamlessly. Amongst all that material is a wide selection of nearly 50 new magic items!
Companions are important members of the adventuring party, and they deserve magical treasure just as much as anyone else! The following magic items are useful rewards to grant adventurers interested in getting the most out of the rules for companions.
Most wearable magic items from other books are designed for humanoids, or at least for intelligent creatures with a humanoid body structure. A dog can’t benefit from gauntlets of ogre power or a headband of intellect. A centaur can benefit from both of these items, but not from boots of elvenkind.
As a reminder, when a companion attunes to a magic item, it uses their bonded character’s attunement slot as well as their own.

How Junior Got His Bandana of the Good Boy
Rowan and Junior, who shared an acquisitive streak, were already picking through the loot. The demon’s treasure—a decade of tribute levied from a terrified populace—was thrown haphazard behind the altar. Unlike a dragon, the demon didn’t care about treasure for its own sake, just about taking it away from people who wanted it.
“No, we can’t keep it all,” said Rowan, as much to herself as to Junior. “This is all stolen and should go back to its owners. But maybe people won’t mind if we keep a few nice things.” Her hands rested on a golden harp, its strings muted by a scrap of green silk.
As Rowan unwrapped the harp, Junior nuzzled her hand holding the silk. “You want this? A roomful of gold and jewels and you want this piece of cloth?” Rowan knotted the whorled green silk behind Junior’s neck. “You have good taste. It looks very elegant on you—brings out your eyes.” She hugged Junior. “You deserve it. You saved our lives back there.”
Junior was craning his neck to try to catch a glimpse of the bandanna under his chin. “Peep,” he agreed.
“Peep? That’s all you have to say? During the battle you were talking up a storm, but now you just say ‘peep’?”
Junior flared his wings in a draconic shrug. He beat his wings once and soared aloft, landing heavily on Rowan’s shoulder. “Peep.”
