Ushoran is back with a new Army of Renown. He’s not the only one either. The Flesh-eater Courts are ready to issue judgement!
One of the fun things coming with the new battletomes are the rules updates and changes to Armies and Regiments of Renown. I like that you don’t have to use these but they do provide new options as well as a different playstyle. That said, we’ve got a few to cover so let’s dive in!
“When certain pre-eminent abhorrants take to the battlefield, they can mutate the delusion beyond its usual volatile nature, mustering an Army of Renown that behaves uniquely.”
Knights of New Summercourt – Ushoran’s Army of Renown
When Ushoran take to the field you can opt to run the Knights of New Summercourt. This Army of Renown gains access to a few special rules if you follow the army building restrictions. In Their Sire’s Shadow is a bit of a gamble but it can certainly pay off. You basically roll for three units with one charge roll. You can see the specifics above. This one feels like an “all or nothing” move for sure. But you do get to activate the Nightmarish Charge passive if it goes off.
“The Nightmarish Charge passive ability forces enemies to falter in their defence, subtracting 1 from hit rolls from charged units, making offence the best defence for these gore-smeared chevaliers.”
That’s not the only option either. Here’s a couple more tools in the arsenal of Ushoran.
Thematically the ability A Duel, Good Sir! makes sense. Personally, I’m never a fan of these types challenge of rules but that’s a whole other article. Anyhow, the Flesh-eater Courts under Ushoran also have access to Red Errantry Hosts that allows for some unit recursion. That’s typically a good thing for an army to have.
More Armies of Renown for the Flesh-eater Courts
The new High Falconer Flgryn also has a special Army of Renown rule. This is the The Equinox Feast and it allows for “the peasant classes and non-unique, non-Hero Monsters. ” Sounds fun!
“Each battle round is accompanied by an ability representing the phases of this intoxicating festival. At first, the party greets the foreign revellers, adding 1 to their run rolls, while any jubilant attendees who have stumbled into danger may retreat an extra D6”. In the second battle round, Felgryn leads his falconers in a display of avian artistry, though guests are advised to take care not to get gouged or pecked at by these low-flying birds of prey.“
Obviously the rules change based on the battle round. Here’s the rules for the third and fourth battle rounds:
This particular Army of Renown is going to take some timing to take advantage of these rules. That said, you know they are coming from the start so be sure to plan for them to kick in.

The Scarlet Jury – Grand Justice Gormayne’s Regiment of Renown
With a new battletome GW is also releasing a new Regiment of Renown featuring Grand Justice Goremayne. This particular Regiment is made of fixed units but can join any Death or Destruction Army as well as a few others. Apparently the Cities of Sigmar, Kharadron Overlords, Slaves to Darkness don’t seem to have too much of a problem with this Regiment.
“The jurors are all warped by Gormayne’s Accusations of Regicide delusion, meaning the judge will need to risk his neck to get the most out of his followers – think of it as convenient evidence to help ensure a guilty verdict.”
I’m curious what that translates to on the tabletop. There’s also the option to include a Royal Terrorgheist as part of the The Horror of Hallow’s Watch. A Terrorgheist is already a threat and this ally joining other Death Armies could really help shore up some weak spots.
The Flesh-eater Courts are in session soon. Are you ready to feast?
