Legend in the Mist is out now! And that means it’s time for all your dreams of being a humble hero to come true. Check it out!

Legend in the Mist is an RPG I’ve been waiting for, for a while now. It uses the City of Mist framework, but instea dof being an urban fantasy neo-noir detective RPG, it is a fantasy RPG all about going on a journey. And I couldn’t be more pumped. Because Legend in the Mist is just full on folktale heroes. It’s a narrative-centered RPG about regular people going on dangerous journeys and becoming something more.

Legend in the Mist

I guess you could call it rustic fantasy – that’s what the game’s blurb calls it for sure – but the aesthetic is there. You play as heroes from a remote part of the world. The villagers whose humble origins might feature in the backdrop of a hero in another game. Taking inspiration from stories like Princess Mononoke, The Wind In The Willows, and of course, The Lord of the Rings, this is a game all about discovering who you are when adventure calls on you.

But how does it play? It’s a fiction-first system, and one that uses a lot of “tags.” Tags here are descriptive words – things like cunning or sneaky, for instance. These are narrative levers that you can lean on when trying to tell your story. You’ll take on various challenges with 2d6 and a handful of descriptive words. And eventually you’ll become a hero.

You might learn magic. You might discover an ancient mystery. Or you might just fall into darkness along the way. If you’ve played City in the Mist, you kind of know the deal already. But if you haven’t, this is storytelling fuel. It’s already a Copper bestseller on DriveThruRPG for a reason.

Legend in the ist is an arrative-first RPG for players who want a fantasy roleplaying experience that feels like a folktale, with heartfelt moments, exciting conflicts, and gasp-worthy character-altering consequences.

Spin a fireside tale of villagers and other unlikely heroes setting out on a quest into a greater unknown world, rife with peril, magic, and mystery.

In the core rulebook, you’ll find all the rules to play the game as Hero and Narrator. You’ll read through a tutorial comic book adventure that teaches the basics of the game, then dip into character creation with 30 ready-to-play tropes, and hundreds of customization options to get you making your own hero and then playingthe game.

In the Narrator’s guide, you’ll learn how to run the game. What makes for an interesting story, and of course, find challenges and journeys enough to get you started and keep you going until your own inspiration kicks in. From City in the Mist alone, I would recommend this one.
