If you missed the original BackerKit campaign, there’s still time to pre-order RiverBank, Kobold’s cozy game of tea parties and chaos.

Kobold’s upcoming new RPG RiverBank is all about embracing the chaos of stories like Wind in the Willows, or if you prefer, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. But it’s also about getting comfy. Spending time with your friends. And settling in for a nice meal. In other words, RiverBank is a game of poetry and tea parties and total disaster.

RiverBank – Available For Pre-Order Now

So what, in a nutshell, is RiverBank? It’s a game of animals trying to have tea parties and fancy balls while also being badgers and otters and whatever else you happen to be. Will you keep your nice spats on as your life descends into chaos?

It has its own RPG system. You won’t find the familiar clatter of a d20 here. Instead, you’ll get yourself into situations as things start going awry. Relations come to visit unexpectedly. An ill-omened cousin comes calling who flatters himself that he is an expert at paying little complements to people who need them.

It’s a comedy of manners mixed in with the occasional bit of animal mayhem. All wrapped up in an idyllic countryside setting:

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that somewhere between the first dainty sip of tea and the final, venomously hurled piece of cake, Aunt Alice’s bridge game had taken a regrettable turn.

In the RiverBank roleplaying game, you and a few reputable (or otherwise!) Animal friends reside in an idyllic English countryside setting created by award-winning writer Kij Johnson. Weave a cozy narrative of social adventures, escalating situations, and impending disaster with more than a few unexpected twists. Celebrate festivals, attend Ms. Badger’s literary salons (for the hors d’oeuvres, if nothing else), and nurture (occasionally sabotage) relationships with one another and a charming cast of nonplayer characters.”

As you balance your various tendencies and those of your party members, you will find your group adhering around the fireside. It’s another fine addition to the rising tide of cozy RPGs. And I for one, can’t wait to play it.
