Baldur’s Gate 3 is the gift that keeps on giving. And the devs are extremely generous, as the latest hotfix will demonstrate.

Larian Studios might have finished with “big updates” for its seminal masterpiece, Baldur’s Gate 3. But the hits just somehow keep coming in. Today, for instance, we got a new hotfix. Hotfix #34 brings in a hefty update for the game. Which again, not “major”—certainly, after all, Larian swears it is done with that—but it does add you know just a few “minor” things. Like a native build for the Steam Deck.

Honestly I’m scared of what Larian considers a “major” update these days.

Baldur’s Gate 3 New Hotfix Adds Steam Deck Build, Framerate Smoothing

I mean, what more could you ask for, at this point? It’s already a game that redefines a genre, and even now, two years later, is still giving folks new things to discover. And now, because the developers wanted a smoother experience playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on the hand held Steam Deck, we’re all benefitting.

As of Hotfix #34 being live, you can run it native to Steam Deck. Which is huge for people playing on the platform. You get a better framerate, lower loading times, and all in all a smoother experience. But this is a rising tide that lifts all boats—A CONCEPT THE WHOLE WORLD COULD DO TO REMEMBER THESE DAYS—because even if you aren’t using a Steam Deck, you still benefit from the update.

“The work the team has put into this build also means that everyone will get to enjoy overall improvements to the way game models are streamed on all platforms, which should reduce framerate spikes in busy areas, such as the Lower City in Act 3.”

But of course, that’s not all! There’s also a ton of crashes and bug fixes that come in, including tweaks to the Xbox cross-play functionality, Honour Mode save fixes, and most importantly, fixing a rat that “you, tragically, couldn’t hear squeak when it squoke.”

Which, as I’m sure we all know, renderedthe game literally unplayable. At any rate, you can download the new hotfix now.
