Free League and Skybound have teamed up to develop a new tabletop RPG based on the hit comic/animated series, Invincible.
Invincible was an amazing comic book, and a doubly amazing animated series. If you haven’t read or watched it, you are missing out on a truly spectacular superhero story. At its heart, it’s about family, trauma, and growing up. And that’s what both Free League and Skybound hope to capture in a new, upcoming RPG based on Invincible. And with a Kickstarter that has already more than tripled its goal within hours of launching, I have to say the campaign is looking pretty
Invincible RPG Kickstarter – Closing in on $200K With No Signs of Slowing
As you might expect (and possibly be relieved by), Free League’s upcoming Invincible RPG will run on the award-winning Year Zero Engine behind many of its games. It’s the same engine that powers games like Tales from the Loop or the Blade Runner RPG. And in the case of this kind of superhero story, I feel like Year Zero will serve it well, mixing both superhero action and that deep, interpersonal relationship stuff that drives the story.
And of course, at the heart of the Invincible RPG Kickstarter is a single gorgeous hardback core rulebook. Inside you’ll find everything you need to make your own superhero story. It’s packed full of rules and powers and talents to create your custom hero, as well as a ton of lore about the universe of Invincible with Viltrumites and demon detectives and all.
And you can pick it up in a fancy limited deluxe Kickstarter-exclusive cover (and pick up a special early backer reward as a bonus if you back within the next day or so). But that’s not all. There’s also a Starter Set, which comes with an abridged rulebook, pregen characters, custom dice, maps, and more.
You can even snag some custom Invincible Dive Trays made by FanRoll. That way you’ve got something superhero-themed to roll your dice in. It might even help you to roll better. Though in my experience, it can often go the other way. There’s nothing like clattering noisily off of a hard floor for making those dice do what you hope they will.
At any rate, the campaign has only just begun. Which means the stretch goals are still coming. Already folks have unlocked the first few, including bonus standees for the strter set and a new adventure as a digital accessory. But more may soon be unlocked, including one that adds more characters to the game, including Tech Jacket and the Astounding Wolf-Man.
