The fairytale world of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor gets adapted to D&D in an upcoming new digital exclusive expansion for the Forgotten Realms.

WotC is trying something big with the first campaign setting release for D&D 5.5E. As part of the upcoming Forgotten Realms bundle, which includes the Forgotten Realms: Player’s Guide and Forgotten Realms: Adventures in Faerun, the tableto giant is also releasing a series of digital exclusive supplements. There are three supplements all in all: Astarion’s Book of Hungers, Netheril’s Fall, and Lorwyn: First Light. This last one might be exciting to some folks because it heralds the first appearance of a Magic: the Gathering setting in 5.5E, the fairytale plane of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor.

Lorwyn: First Light Will Take D&D Players to Lorwyn-Shadowmoor

The plane of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor takes heavy inspiration from celtic folklore and other fairytales. And in D&D, it’s getting reimagined as a “Domain of Delight” in the Feywild. Domains of Delight, if you aren’t familiar, are demesnes ruled by different Archfey (or other powers) scattered throughout the Feywild.

And on November 18th, you’ll get to step into the dual-natured world. As the name implies, the one Domain is actually two. Well, sort of. It started as one world with two aspects that would shift every two hundred or so years. On Lorwyn, it was a plane of bright summer days, and on the Shadowmoor aspect, a world of endless night.

However, both aspects of the plane have begun to bleed into each other in strange and magical ways. Now the world of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor is a dual-natured one. There, patches of dark and mysterious night mix with vibrant, sunny meadows, separated by shimmering, ever-shifting auroras.

Lorwyn: First Light helps you expand your Forgotten Realms adventures with new Fey-insired character options and monsters from a new Domain of Delight in the Feywild called Lorwyn-Shadowmoor. This new content can be used to represent heroic characters or mischevious creatures who hail from the Lorwyn-Shadowmoor settting.

What do you get, you might be wondering? In a nutshell: 2 feats, 2 new backgrounds (presumably featuring the new feats), 2 magic items, 8 new monsters, 2 new playable species (and advice for adapting several others into the setting), and 2 adventures with maps.

Now, it’s up to you to decide whether that’s worth the $14.99 or not. I know that new stuff for D&D is always a sticking point—especially since 5.5E seems to be focused on rolling out more subclasses. If you snag it as part of the Ultimate Bundle (linked below), you’ll get everything. That includes digital dice, the other expansions, and digital + physical copies of the Forgotten Realms books. If you really want to go all in on the Forgotten Realms, then that’s what you’ll want. Otherwise, look for Lorwyn: First Light on November 18th on its own!
