Be the literal life of the whole party with these magic items–just maybe not the way you were thinking. Let’s talk healing gear.

You know what’s surprisingly in short supply in the D&D catalogue of magic items? Healing gear. There aren’t many healing-centric magic items. There’s the occasional magical ring or amulet or ioun stone that gives you a very minor regeneration. But aside from healing potions, items that let you heal someone else are comparatively rare.

However, if you want to be the party healer, these five items can help you do exactly that!

Staff of Healing

Perhaps the single most powerful and/or versatile healing item in the book, the Staff of Healing. Fitting, then, that it should kick off the list. Now, you do have to play a magical spellcaster known for healing to use it–that is, only Bards, Clerics, or Druids can attune to it. But you only need one level to qualify.

And what a benefit you’ll gain. You’ll get the ability to cast Cure Wounds (anywher eup to a 4th level version), or Lesser Restoration, or Mass cure Wounds, if you’re in a dire emergency. This lets you keep your party up and fighting during any combat.

Cauldron of Rebirth

Of course, sometimes you can’t keep everyone up as much as you’d like. Death happens, in other words. But if you have a Cauldron of Rebirth, you needn’t worry too much. With this magical cauldron, you can shove a corpse in it, cover it in salt, and then after 8 hours, the creature is resurrected as though by the Raise Dead spell. No diamond needed.

And even if your party members aren’t dying, this is still a great little healing item to have. Because for one, you can use it as the component for a Scrying spell. But also every Long Rest you get a single Potion of Greater Healing which will lastf or 24 hours. A nice little extra boost for anyone in your party.

Canaith Mandolin

They say music is a kind of magic all its own. And the Canaith Mandolin proves that to be true. It is one of the Instrument of the Bard, named after one of the famous bard colleges. Each one has its own suite of abilities. The Canaith Mandolin is all about music that can protect and sooth and heal and also let you do mischief.

With one of these instruments, you can cast a 3rd level Cure Wounds which isn’t too bad. But you can also cast once per day, Fly, Invisibility, Levitate, Protection from Evil and Good, Dispel Magic, and Protection from Energy.

Longbow of the Healing Hearth

With the Longbow of the Healing Hearth we get into the real classic fantasy magic item in an RPG type of nonsense. And I love it. This agical longbow is inscribed with runes and prayers to the god Hiatea, and is potent in its own right. It’s a +3 longbow that can create its own magic arrows. But it also can be used to shoot healing arrows at your party.

That’s right. Now you can shoot your friends and they can’t even be mad at you. You spend one of the bow’s 8 charges and replace one of your attacks with a blazing arrow of curative magic that automatically hits one creature up to 150 feet away. That target can spend one of their hit dice and regain hit points equal to whatever they roll plus your Wisdom modifier.

Reincarnation Dust

When all else fails, when the Cauldron of Rebirth’s cooldown of one week just won’t do because you need your friend back now, there’s Reincarnation Dust. This extremely rare magic item, found in the Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, is sprinkled over a corpse, which then absorbs it.

Then the creature returns to life in a new body—as per the Reincarnation spell. Which means you get to have a whole new body, created from magic.

Happy adventuring!
