This one is for all you rank-and-file fans out there. Kings of War is getting a 4th edition and there’s more to come.
Mantic Games has been hard at work cranking out really great stuff lately. We’ve gotten Halo: Flashpoint and a steady stream of updates. There’s the new Epic Warpath system that’s out and looking, well, epic. There’s even an easier and more approachable intro into Kings of War thanks to Kings of War Champions.
That said, Mantic isn’t done yet. Now it’s time for Kings of War to get some attention directly. And that is coming in the form of a new edition!
Kings of War – Back To The Battlefield
If you’re looking for a quick brief about the new edition then Mantic Games has a one-stop shop for you. There’s a new Kings of War 4.0 launch page that collects all the links to their various media for KoW 4.0.
There’s videos and a bunch of articles from Mantic to check out. If you want to get into Kings of War, then just check them out in order. It’s really that simple.
For Veterans of KoW, you might want to skip ahead to the “General Changes” article. This covers a bunch of ground including “why the update” and what the goals of the 4th edition release is aiming to accomplish. Honestly, there’s just a lot of “clean-up” in the language from 3rd to 4th and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Obviously, there’s waaaaay more to it than that, but I think that’s a good start.
Mantic has a daily release schedule planned for Kings of War going to at least October 7th. I think the odds are good that there will be even more news beyond that, too. I’m looking forward to checking on this as it’s one of Mantic’s core games. While I’m not much of a rank-and-file player myself, I know there’s loads of players that are into these style of games. And more power to you, I say.
As for now, I’m still keeping tabs on this update. There’s a lot to take in and I’m chewing on all these videos and articles. Who knows, maybe this will be the edition that wins me over!
In the meantime I’m going to spend some time learning about the world of Pannithor and checking out a few of the armies in KoW that appeal to me. I’m kind of still getting over the fact that KoW is on it’s 4th edition! So congrats to Mantic and I hope 4.0 is a smashing success.
