Just in time to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the classic 1st Edition Pendragon is back, thanks to Kickstarter.
Pendragon Classic Edition is a new Kickstarter campaign from Chaosium that looks to revive the classic 1st edition of the tabletop RPG of knights, chivalry, virtues, and vices. Four decades ago, the RPG came crashing onto the scene, making a splash with its tales of Arthurian adventure. Now, in 2025, Chaosium is bringing it back courtesy of a Kickstarter near you.
Pendragon: Classic Edition
It’s two anniversaries in one. Because Pendragon was published 40 years ago, and this year marks Chaosium’s 50th anniversary. But either way, you’ll still get the same great game as it originally appeared. And not just warts and all either—you get special bonus content “from the archives.”
At the heart of the Kickstarter is a 2 deluxe boxed set. This faithful recreation is adorned with the classic 1985 cover art by Jody Lee. It contains a Player Book, a Gamemaster book, a map of King Arthur’s Britain, a few play aids, and pregenerated character sheets, enough to let you write your own Arthurian fan fiction.
You’ll get sheets for Agravaine, Arthur as both Squire and High King, Balin le Sauvage, Brastias, Breuse sans Pitie, Cadoc, Carados, Gawaine, Griflet, Guenever, Kay, Lak, young Lancelot, older Lancelot, Lot, Marhaus, Mark, Merlin, Mordred, Morgan le Fay, Nimue, Pellinore, Percivale, Tor, Tristram, and Ulfus. You’ll have to make them kiss on your own.

Jokes aside, this is an amazing collector’s box. Because alongside the big box, this Kickstarter campaign also lets you pick up pretty much all the big expansions for the original 1st Edition game. That means you get the iconic Pendragon Campaign, which takes you through the life and times of King Arthur’s reign. Or The Grey Knight, which was recently rereleased in the newest edition too. And of course, the Tournament of Dreams. This scenario kicked off knightly adventures for many, back in the day.
As of press time, the campaign has raised more than 600% of its funding, meaning that hopefully soon, the campaign unlocks its list of stretch goals. In the meantime, you can check out the Pendragon Classic Edition Kickstarter at the link below.
