Free League Publishing will release four books introducing Trudvang as a new game world and setting for the Dragonbane RPG, the company announced. The Nordic-inspired Trudvang property originated as a campaign world created by Theodore Bergqvist and Magnus Malmbeg of Riotminds for Dragonbane in the early 2000s. Riotminds later released a separate RPG set in the world, Trudvang Chronicles RPG; and CMON released Trudvang Legends, a board game based on the Riotminds RPG, in 2019 (see “’Trudvang Chronicles’ Inspires CMON“). The Dragonbane: Trudvang line will be produced by Free League under license from CMON.
Veteran RPG writer Magnus Seter (Cyberpunk 2020, Dragonbane), who worked on Trudvang in its early days, will oversee writing, editing and adapting the world to the current version of Dragonbane.
Art for the new Dragonbane: Trudvang releases will mainly be drawn from existing art by Paul Bonner and Alvaro Tapia. Bonner created new cover art for the Free League World Book, and a new map of Trudvang by Francesca Baerald will underly the world.
The four books planned by Free League are:
- World Book, a richly illustrated volume laying out the setting’s history, peoples and regions.
- Book of Heroes will outline new professions, skills, heroic abilities and magic, wielded by vitner weavers and dimwalkers.
- Jorgi’s Bestiary, a monster manual for the setting, adapted for Dragonbane.
- The Black Sun, a four-part campaign in Trudvang, revised and published in English for the first time.
The line’s launch will be led by a Kickstarter campaign, planned for early 2026.
Dragonbane dates back to 1982; it was revised and updated earlier this decade by Free League (see “Free League Announces ‘Dragonbane’“).
