Goatboy here with the  top 5 40K old-school Classic Marine units that will most assuredly get Primarized in the days ahead.

These are units that will probably get a sweet new update whenever the new 40K 11th Edition comes out with a brand new Space Marine Codex. It is interesting to see how much of the classic marine range have really been updated when you look back to 8th Edition when the first Primaris models came out.

5. Pedro Kantor

There has to be a new model coming for this guy.  Why would they leave it in the book if they don’t plan to update him?  I could see a quick release with a fun little Crimson Fist theme detachment coming before this year or early next year.  He just feels like a slam dunk character you can build out with a really awesome power fist and a ton of Space Marine laurels all over him.

4. Whirlwind

I talked about the Whirlwind early this week and while I just wish this type of model would go away I think it is probably due for an upgrade.  You could easily take the Impulsor chassis, throw in a cool missile rack up top, and build out a little “anti infantry” style missile tank design to break units out of their cover with piles of missiles.  It just feels like something they would want to keep around as they have replaced most of the other classic tank tanks with something already.

3. Centurion Devastator and Assault Squad

It feels weird how we really haven’t had an updated version of this kit.  This is a model that always lies in wait for a new Space Marine detachment to show up and show how brutal this unit can be.  I can see GW making a sort of “mini Invictor Warsuit” that utilizes someone in Aggressor armor and create a cool “heavy” choice for the Primaris Marines.

2. Storm Raven

This is a model we all loathed when it came out and it should get an update to “fix” (replace and memory-hole) it.  It needs to remove the flying brick/toy aesthetic and just push it into the cooler a-grav designs of the Gladiator and Stormspeeder ideas.  I almost feel like all flyers should go away and just leave this in Legends but you just know we’ll see some kind of new one.  I just don’t want to see it looking like some kind of GI Joe-Cobra style tank and go for something a bit sleeker, maybe with a little old Caestus Assault Ram vibe mixed in.

1. Vindicator

The ultimate Casino Gun for 40k right now – the Vindicator can be a blessing as well as a curse.  It is weird we don’t have some kind of a-grav Siege variant for the Gladiator chassis and it feels like something will see in the future.  The tank is such a corner stone of the 40k environment and just screams grimdark.  You drive this giant box into the enemy and watch as it shoots at anything in close range.  I would love to see an updated siege shield on the floating tank chassis – maybe a mini void-shield generator!

Special Mention – The Razorback

I know you could say the Impulsor can sorta feel like this but they really need a troop transport with a heavy weapon that isn’t a big ole Repulsor.  The idea of a simplified troop transport that could punch back a bit is a cool thing that helps “fill” out the Space Marines.  I always like these sort of units in other armies as it allows you to get something that can answer a heavy option without having to pay for an expensive bit of tech that might not always work. Model-wise, you either make a next generation Razorback out of an upgunned open-topped Impulsor (moves faster), or a stripped down enclosed APC Gladiator (moves slower).

What do you think? Is there something obvious I missed? I get the feeling a lot of these might continue on into the next book but will have to see.  I also feel like just removing a ton of options from Codex Space Marines might be a good thing for new players to help figure out this game.  I know a lot of the newer competitive players have no idea that pain we all faced thru 6th and 7th edition so if we remove some of the old things they won’t be missed.
