It’s not a new edition but it is the next chapter in Arkham Horror: The Card Game. Get ready for Chapter 2 to start!

Long time readers may know that I’m a HUGE fan of Arkham Horror. I keep up with the fiction and I dabble with the board game. However, Arkham Horror: The Card Game is my jam! The most recent expansion had players dive into Arkham as the flood waters rose. Shoot, we had to deal with THE Cthulhu rising. So everyone was wondering what FFG was going to next. Turns out, they had a plan — it’s time for a fresh start. But not a complete reset!

“It’s been months since the calamity. The people of Arkham, Massachusetts slowly work to put their lives back together in the aftermath of Cthulhu’s rampage. Rivertown is still underwater, once-prominent leaders have fallen from grace, and much of the city remains in a state of ruin. Despite the upheaval, life goes on, and when a new wave of disappearances casts its shadow over this broken town, it’s up to a handful of determined investigators to solve the mystery before it’s too late.

The world has changed. The page has turned. And now, a new chapter awaits.

Fantasy Flight Games is thrilled to announce a new core set for Arkham Horror: The Card Game!”

Arkham Horror: The Card Game Chapter Two

The first big question I’m sure everyone has: “Is this a new edition?” NO. It is NOT a new edition of the card game. Instead, this marks a new launching point for new players and also a fresh card pool to run with. You can still use your old cards (if you want to). In fact, FFG had an article a while ago explaining how that works. Essentially, they have a new set of formats: Current, Legacy, and Limited. For the most part, these formats are really based on what you have access to for your collection. Arkham Horror: The Card Game isn’t a competitive game — so you and your play group get to decide what works best for you.

However, the concept is really to help the design team move forward in a meaningful way. It also gives new players a better ground work to jump in. And, I’m not going to sugar coat it, this is also a way for them to deal with a lot of the inventory issues with restocks and supply problems. Let’s be real, if you missed out on a previous expansion it can be REALLY difficult to get your hands on them. The new Campaign/Investigator expansions were a massive boon for that issue, but it can still be tough to get new cards.

Keeping the Old, Bring On The New

That said, this is NOT a new edition. It’s a fresh start after the calamity that happened in the setting — and the lore is moving forward. This is an exciting time as FFG is looking to rework and introduce new versions of investigators. Oh, and obviously a BUNCH of new cards, too! Let’s start with a preview of Joe Diamond, The Private Investigator.

You can see the full details from the new arkhamhorror.com site but this is a different version of Joe Diamond from the previous one. The art is different, his Deckbuilding Requirements are different, and the flavor text is also new.

“As we mentioned earlier, time has passed within the narrative of Arkham Horror. Because of this, Chapter Two’s expansions will see a mixture of new faces and returning favorites joining the game’s playable roster of investigators. That said, even though some characters are returning, you’ll find them sporting new stat lines, abilities, and/or deckbuilding restrictions, making them almost entirely new characters. After all, people grow and change over time!”

Personally, I LOVE this update. I have a few favorite Investigators and I also enjoy the alternate versions of them, too. So I’m excited to see these familiar faces with updated stats/rules/abilities. It’s more than just a fresh coat of paint!

As far as new cards, the updated Core Set with have those aplenty. Along with those new cards, the game will also have a new introductory mission. Furthermore, FFG is adding a little something extra for players, too.

“One new feature for the game that you’ll see a lot in Chapter Two is the introduction of “reward cards!” These special player cards are—as their name implies—earned as rewards for winning a campaign, finishing a specific scenario, or fulfilling some other special condition. You can’t include a reward card in any of your decks until you’ve officially unlocked it in-game, which means these rewards serve as a form of permanent progression as well as proof of your investigating chops.”

I’m really looking forward to these changes. Part of the fun for me has always been the deck building. So I’m always up for more cards to play with. But I’m also a huge fan of the campaign structure and stories that unfold. These new “reward cards” sure seem like a nice cross between the two!

FFG is still teasing out more info about Arkham Horror: The Card Game all this week. Plus, there’s going to be a massive info dump at Pax Unplugged during the In-Flight Report on November 22, 2025. I’m hoping I can sneak into that one live! In any case, the next chapter in Arkham Horror: The Card Game is coming. Are you ready to dive back into the Mythos?!
