The One Ring and Lord of the Rings Roeplaying delve into the story of Saruman in two new adventures focused on the White Wizard.

He is great among the Wise, chief of the Order of the Istari, and head of the Council. Saruman the Wise was one of the more powerful figures in the world of Middle-earth. And yet, power doesn’t preclude corruption. For as the pride of Saruman grew, so too did his vulnerability to the machinations of the would-be Dark Lord, Sauron.

But who was he before he turned on Gandalf the Grey? Before the War of the Ring brought doom and ruin and the shadow of Sauron upon the land? Free League invites you to find out in two new expansions coming out soon. First up is The One Ring’s version, Hands of the White Wizard. Accompanying it is The Trials of Saruman for The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, the 5E version.

The One Ring And LotR Roleplaying – Saruman Expansions

Both books are basically the same. They just use different rulesets. So it really just comes down to whether you want to play using the rules of The One Ring, which are a narrative-fantasy ruleset designed to get you focused on fellowship and journeys with Council from helpful advisors, or using 5E, which we know and love well by now. Though don’t worry, it’s 5E with a lot of rules geared towards capturing that LotR feeling.

The treason of Isengard has not yet begun, but its seeds are sown The question is whether his downfall is inevitable or if the courage of heroes can stillchange his fate and the fate of Middle-earth itself.”

Both expansions are available now for pre-order. When you pre-order, you also immediately unlock pdf copies of the adventures, so you can start playing months ahead of the retail release. Which means you can become embroiled in the intrigues of Isengard that much sooner.

And what intrigues! You can decide whether to be a loyal servant of Saruman, to spy for the many interestsin the realm, and delve within the Orthanc. Perhaps you can prevent the rise of the Uruk-Hai, perhaps you will watch tragedy unfold from a front row seat. Either way, adventure awaits!
