Oni Press will release the first two volumes for the Magnetic Press Planet of the Apes RPG to trade in February, the companies announced. Oni provides sales, marketing, and manufacturing support for sister company Magnetic (see “Oni and Magnetic Join Forces”).
The project was first announced in 2024 (see “’Planet of the Apes Role-Playing Game’ for a full description of the game and product range”), and a Kickstarter for the initial books and miniatures was conducted in July of that year, raising $324,681 from 1,971 backers. The game is built on Magnetic’s D6MV System, based on West End Games’ classic D6 System, which was used for their Star Wars RPG.
The Core Rulebook and The Ansa Files sourcebook will both be released on February 4, 2026 at $49.95 cover prices for 300+-page full-color hardbacks. Both are written by Andrew E.C. Gaska and E.L. Thomas, with interior art by Chris Scalf, Runa I. Rosenberger, Chandra Free, and Shane Molina. The cover of the Core Rulebook is by Bill Sienkiewicz, and the cover of The Ansa Files is by Chris Scalf.
The Role-playing Game of the Planet of the Apes Core Rulebook has all the rules, statistics, and lore needed to play the game. The Ansa Files is a separate sourcebook with references and resources specific to the classic films, novels, and comics.
